Can't say I have a preference as I went to UKW soon after I started. I'd quit playing this game as my system would always crash hard at some point. Changed to a Nvidia card, for other reasons, and things were better but I still crashed. Just tried it again a couple of weeks ago and it works great. Must be the newer driver. Anyway, I just killed myself surfacing near an unknown enemy for a gun battle. Dummy had left the time compression at 128 and I was shelled before I could react in time. Bummer as I was on my way to the Med after reaching port.

I'd use UKW for the improvements and the German text.

After looking at all the screenshots posted here and all the mods. ( you guys have been busy :DL).

I just bought it on ebay factory sealed $9.00 including shipping. :woot:

I think I'm going to have alot of fun with this. :D

Just be aware it has a different and less realistic game-play than SH3/4. I love shadowing ships, doing an end-around and then popping up for a gun attack. It's also somewhat of a relief to not worry about ASDIC. Also, with no game saves in mission, you will need 1-2 hours for a patrol. If your killed, you can restart the patrol so you don't lose it all. I had given the game up for random crashes, but it works great now. New graphics driver, or virus software, or DVD drive? I don't know which or what fixed it, but that is all that changed on my system. To test if yours will give you problems, go to external view (TAB), and just let it run. If it's still going an hour later, it's likely good to go.

There's so much in the forum to read and alot of mods to d\l and look over so I'm ready in advance.

One good thing is my Gameing rig isn't connected to internet, has no virus protection, or any other crap to run in background.

The only software on it is for gameing. :yeah:

I bought this game straight from its parent company, a small german firm, for 28 euros at the time.

I haven't played it much yet but my buy was a statement that I enjoyed people taking chances in making a game no one thought of making in the first place.

and since they budgeted the end price from the start they didn't have time to make a SH4 type engine.

At least here you fire the torpedoes from the torpedo room, which doesnt exist in SH4 !

Look how far they came from the boats of 1914 to the ocean cruisers of 1918, chapeau bas messieurs !

i am very interested in WWI so i think i will take a look at Shells of Fury and was curious about the UKW.
