View Full Version : No "Install new Fonts" Option!
I was about to install some new fonts but going to Control Panel\Fonts there is absolutely no option to install new fonts! I did a search on the web and seems that this could be because of a missing desktop.ini file, certainly there is none in the Windows\Fonts folder, if this is so could someone upload theirs & I will edit it and try it out or is there an easier way of fixing this problem?:hmmm:

Took this from MS site:
To install a font, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type the following command, and then click OK: %windir%\fonts
On the File menu, click Install New Font.
In the Drives box, click the drive that contains the font that you want to add.
Note The floppy disk drive is typically drive A or drive B. The CD drive is typically drive D.
In the Folders box, click the folder that contains the font that you want to add, and then click OK.
In the List of fonts box, click the font that you want to add. To select more than one font at a time, press and hold the CTRL key while you select each font.
Click to select the Copy Fonts To Fonts Folder check box. The new font is saved in the Windows\Fonts folder.
Click OK.
Don't know if you tried this already. :hmmm:

I guess you had a look at this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/133725) one as well.
Don't know if a desktop.ini from Win7 would do you any good? :06:
the following commands may be missing from the Fonts folder menus:
The System and Read Only attributes are no longer set for the Fonts folder. The Fonts folder must have its System and Read Only attributes set to work correctly.
The Fontext.dll file may be missing or damaged, causing the menus to contain only the commands for a generic folder.
The Desktop.ini file may be missing or damaged. Note that you do not see the Desktop.ini file when you view the Fonts folder. To see the file, open an MS-DOS session and view the Windows\Fonts folder.
The folder still has its system & Read only attributes set also the Fontext.dll file is in the system32 folder, that leaves only the missing desktop.ini file should be in the Windows\Fonts folder but missing!!:-?
If yours resides in the same folder could you open it and copy n paste the contents on the forum here or upload the file, I'll edit it & try it out, will either work or not!!:03: Thanks.
Edit: Looking at some of the existing ini files they contain long registry keys, if that is the case then just copying one won't work, will have to hope someone can find a fix!!

CLSID={BD84B380-8CA2-1069-AB1D-08000948F534}
:oops::oops: The answer was right under my nose all the time :oops::oops:
I extracted it from a previous Ghost image!!:D Man what a dope!!:yep:
Thanks for your patience Arclight!:yep:
