After 2 weeks at sea with a slightly antsy and fatigued crew my watch officer spots a rather large ship in the distance. I order my navigator to compute an intercept before the sun comes up, and we are well within range when we notice about 30 red crosses on the ship - it's a Red Cross Hospital ship steaming dead west to the US.

Upon further inspection, I notice that the waterline on the ship is significantly higher than any hospital ship I've ever seen and suspect that this wasn't quite what it looked like and decided to put 3 eels into her.:arrgh!:

So...what can I expect when highcommand gets word of this? Nurnberg? Medals? Am I going to hell?

I did give a thought to turning around to the crew on deck and giving them a stern...that was NOT a Red Cross ship lecture.

Uh well, Admiral Donitz, it is like this.

There was this troop carrier you see. So in accordance to your orders I sank it. :DL

Instead of the crew of this troop ship abandoning ship, the crew members were put over the side with large buckets of red paint. While the ship was sinking, the crew painted Red Crosses on the side.

The Americans, in an attempt to discredit the Kregsmarine, uh altered and falsified the shipping records, you see...

Somehow the Americans were able to communicate with the survivors and convince them to not only give themselves "injuries" but to back up the story of this so called "hospital" ship.

Since the ship sank, there is no way to recover any of the new paint that was used.

So it is more of a case of my word vs the word of the Americans and the survivors.

That's my story and I am sticking with it.

The ship looks exactly like an AMC.

(Except for the red cross painted every where and the lack of any guns.)

Other than that, it look exactly like an AMC, just ask my WO Bernard...
