Curious fault whilst on patrol.

I’m on patrol NW of Scapa Flow when I sight two Aux cruisers with an escorting DD. After a lot of chasing I manage to hit one of the Aux Cruisers. The DD is after blood.

I won’t go into the boring details of how, having been hit on the head with a can of beans thrown overboard by the DD and at 975ft 6 ¾ ins depth, I managed with just a ball of knotted string and a hammer with a broken handle, to make a set of replacement bearings for the port diesel whilst carrying out a successful lobotomy on the CE. (I modestly won't mention my broken arm)

Suffice to say when the DD and cruiser had left, I managed to get back to periscope depth with just the deck gun destroyed and damage to the conning tower and flak gun.

Now for the serious bit.

All internal compartments are shown as intact but I could not place an officer in the after rest compartment. Each time I tried I got the message that the compartment was destroyed. I could however place ORs (enlisted men) in there. I put my Repair qualified PO in the damage control area to see if I could do anything but then found that I could not move any of my crew at all! All frozen where they were. I surfaced but this made no difference so I had to abandon the patrol.

I’ve never read of anything like this before.

GWX 3.0; 16k vis; No medals; light harbour traffic installed.

Sorry I cant help you on that one mate,I just wanted to say I liked the 'broken arm after successful lobotomy' comment.
For those that don't know what a lobotomy is you may have to explain exactly HOW you broke your arm.
:har:

Sounds like a conflict....unable to fill a compartment because the area is damaged/destroyed. Being able to put enabled men in does puzzle me though :hmmm:

There are one or two other quirks that have evaded modding attempts with no rational reason being uncovered (no point in highlighting them here if still undiscovered).

Like the above I presume the fault was miraculously sorted on the next patrol.

The 'labotomy' bit must be a 'no brainer' though :03:

Paul,

The broken arm; I got that straightening out the attack periscope but didn't want to appear to be 'shooting a line'.

Jimbuna; yes thats what we found when we opened him up - no brain!

I've seen that problem mentioned in the LRT readme but you're not using LRT, so I don't know. I do know the workaround: left click on the "destroyed" compartment, then right-click on men to move them into it.

Don't have an answer but liked reading your description. :salute:

I'd rather have a free bottle in front of me...

I've experienced a problem similar to the one you describe.

Try moving your people by clicking rather than dragging. I don't have my game in front of me to check, but I seem to recall you left click on the name of the compartment, then right click on the crew you want to move to that compartment.

I've had that before where you can't put an officer in the rest compartment but ordinary crew you can. Came up as destroyed for me too, so I just had to send him to sleep it off in the unused engine compartments.

He wasn't happy, and all that spilt engine oil ruined his brand new loafers....
