I have trouble with these, during sqalls you first sight target at a very short range, 1200 yards if you are lucky, the bridge TBT is usually too magnified to be able to obtain a range, the whole thing is a very quick setup and fire situation anyway.

Any tips?

I think I will try aiming with the whole boat using a seaman's eye to attempt to put the track on the proper course. I use stock, 1.4.

I have never tried using sonar to obtain range, perhaps this is the way tio go.

up periscope ;)

Usually if this happens to me i just "up scope" and do it from there.

Never tried that, I'll give it a go. Thanks for your input.

In squalls it's about impossible to do accurate torp attacks. If it's a convoy, I may do a sonar range attack and shoot a spread. Obvious it's much easier if you have radar to figure AOB and speed.

I would rather use the deckgun. You don't have to see the ship. Use radar or sonar to get close, get sonar range, bearing and shoot. Get within 1500 yards it's easy to hit and you can usually see the ship with the flash. Once it catches on fire, it's easy to see. Just keep asking for bearings.

In most storms with fog, usually you can't see a ship until it's 500 yards or less. Be careful not to get close and be seen by a ship with a gun. That close your probably going to get hit.

Using radar you can run from dd's.

This is about the only way I have found to be succesful as well...

However, do keep an eye out for the escorts -- a couple nights ago I was trailing a merchant and shooting him with the deckgun - he was about 500yds ahead and I could not see him, only the flashes when I hit him. I was fixated on sinking him (and lost all situational awareness) when a DD suddenly pops out on the port side ~200yds and turns me into swiss cheese before I could get away... :wah:

It is 'fun' to watch the warships in the squalls signalling each other with their signal lights...
