Hi all,

Putting together a new PC and will be getting back into SH4 after about 8 months ashore. I used to run with TM and RSRD. With all the mods out there now what would folks recommend as the "best" 4 mods to give a fairly realistic but yet fun sim?

thanks,

Kevin

TMO 1.7 or RFB or still the two main super mods. I wouldn't play without RSRDC. I just finished a career with RFB and really enjoyed it and now back to TMO. The mods I"m using are

TMO1.7
TMO hotfix.......
Maxoptics & SCAf fix for TMO
RSRDC TMO 163 V410
RSRDC V410 Patch2B
#1 Real Env.
newfog
Row Sound Effect v9
spash

Obvious there are numerous small mods. Webster now has out his GFO which is almost a supermod in itself and may be worth looking at. Haven't tried FORS.

I'm still a rookie so I haven't experimented with many mods, but a few I might add to Armistead's list are....
Webster's Ship Manuvering Fix
3000 yard-meter bearing tools

Actually GFO is a full supermod and deserves consideration with Trigger Maru Overhauled, Real Fleet Boat, Fall of the Rising Sun, Run Silent Run Deep, Operation Monsun, and whatever w_clear ends up naming his Atlantic Mod.

Asking for the best four mods is like asking for the best four of Santa's Reindeer. It's not really an answerable question. I could say the best mod in the world is the 3000 yard/meter bearing tool (http://files.filefront.com/3000+Yard+Meter+Bearing+T607z/;11593277;/fileinfo.html), and defend that proposition very well.

Neon Deon's Pimp My Ride II (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1113&act=down) is another mod that not many would consider but some of the most fun I've had with Silent Hunter 4 has been with that mod.

We're way beyond the point where picking the best four has become a meaningless joke. And that's a darn good thing!

Sorry, your job is going to be a lot more complicated and a lot more fun than that.

Thanks for the imput all, I know its quite a smorgasbord out there and all the dishes look tasty . I'm just looking for a few good ones to lay a foundation.

thanks,

Kevin

I have not played a super MOD yet (TMO, RSRD, ect), I use the mini MODs and switch around the "menu".

The nice thing about SH4, and SH3, is that if you have a lot of Hard drive space, you can have multiple installs, so that you can have an installed game for each super mod at the same time.

All you need to do is copy the game into a new game folder and install MultiSH4 to set up the save game folder and JSGME to install the mods.
