I was wondering if having 3 trained helmsmen in the control room improved the U-Boat's performance in any way?,especially when diving and surfacing. As their experience grows do they have other effects on the UBoat's performance?
Thanks.

Guess it was a rather silly question, but if you don't ask you never know :nope:

I thought i read somewhere that maybe it improves slightly the speed at which the U-boat reacts to orders and carry out maneuvers but really i haven't noticed any difference.

It is supposed to; however, I think when the green bar is at 100% that is as good as it gets.
I may be wrong; however, as noted above, I haven't observed any improvement when an officer and a petty officer are both qualified.
But then, I usually loose my sub anyway.
I've timed it--no improvement whatsover :shifty:

I agree - full green in any room is as good as it gets. Further expertise is wasted.

So having 3 seamen in the command room could be just as good as 3 WOs?.I currently have 1 WO as a helmsman and he is the one who stands up,the other 2 are seamen.
I was really only concerned originally about trying to shave off fractions of time when diving against aircraft.
Well, that pretty much explains my question.
Thanks :yep:

The same goes for the watch crew. However,I do also place a trained watchman on the starboard rear section of the U-Boat,as the watch officer scans the mainly forward port sections,he scans the rear starboard, giving good protection forward and aft.At least,I like to think it does :shifty:

As long as the bar is fully green. Different quals can make a difference, but once it's all the way over that's it.

Same here. I thought it was funny that the game places them exactly the opposite: two petty officers manning the planes and an unqualified seaman watching over them and running the pumps.
Or for 'helmsman' did you mean the LI (Chief Engineer)? He's the one standing at the front of the compartment, the one who relays your orders. The game calls him 'Helmsman' for some reason.

I didnt mean the Chief Eng no Steve, the other guy at the pumps.
I thought,if i'm going to have a warrant officer or two in the command room it would be the one at the pumps first, acting like a sort of Bosun, monitoring the other two sat next to him (this seems realistic). As the command room is the 'brains' of the UBoat I wanted 3 skilled men at the helm to reflect this, but as you say,it makes no difference.
I think the more skilled men there are in an area it should be reflected by marginally improved...what ever needs improving.

I use to think that having more qualified torpedo men in the torpedo rooms inproved the chances of the torpedo not becoming a dud, but I have fired torpedos at odd angles with no one in the torpedo room, and it still was a perfect hit, so that was out of the question, I guess it just means reloading times.
This is GWX of course.

The green bar maxed out is as good as it gets.
The qualifications only assist in filling the bar quicker.

Okay, we are on the same page then.:DL I think the planesmen usually had the bare minimum qualification to run the planes. That said, I don't think quals work for common sailors in the game anyway. I'm always playing early in the war so I almost never have any room maxed out. I also use SH3 Commander's function that gives a starting crew with some abilities, which is kind of fun.
