I just recently joined the SH3 community, with GMX3 and Commander 2.7. I am going through the torpedo training in the Naval Academy before going to see. I am at periscope depth attempting to mark the ships around me, only I can not find them in the manual. They all contain the British Flag, so I clicked "Britisches Reich", only I didn't seem to see the ships at all. When I was researching this question, I think they actually were C2 Cargo ships. That type of ship does not seem to be in the manual. It could be a "Small Cargo Ship", but I am not sure.

British Reich section will only contain warships and support ships.

what you need to do is open to the "Handelsschiff" section to ID merchants.

All merchants appear in this section without regard to their nationality.

for this reason - when you go into battle - you must check flags carefully

In the periscope/UZO view, lock on your target and double click on the "Ship Type" on the notepad and the recog manual will automatically open up to the page with that ship on it.
Saves you having to thumb through all the pages.

This only works in auto targeting. In manual targeting, you have to thumb through the book and id the target. But once you id the target, same procedure applies.

Also, N is a shortcut key to open/close the manual if you're a keyboard user(like me:)) and it stays on the last page you were looking at.
