Well, I snuck into Portland harbor tonight and I managed to berth my uboat at one of the piers. Nobody seemed to complain. Those British. So polite.

Can someone tell me how to mod the program so that I have targets to hit in port? I remember SH I had some harbor ships.

Thanks a lot,

Apples

I think it's luck of the draw what you find. Last time I went to Portland I found a T2, a C2, and a small merchant inside, and a coastal vessel just outside the entrace.

I'd suggest you use one of the supermods if you want reliable/regular harbour traffic.

Some times the ships are there, but they're not in the water! ;) I've seen a tanker in the TOWN at Portland instead of the harbour before.

Yes, given time, some of the ships can drift and/or lose their waypoints....especially if the player sub/game is saved in close proximity then the game is reloaded.

THanks guys, where do I find these mods that put ships in the harbors? I looked at this GWX everyone talks about but I don't see any feature which refers to harbor activity.

I running SH3 commander on an original disk.

Really? You should hang around the 'Screenshots' thread.

The main reason I use GWX is the harbors filled with ships.

If you're playing stock, you don't even have the Kiel Canal!

I don't raid harbors though, as it's a little on the unhistorical side.

Dont lie, you dont raid harbors cos you know that playing GWX your career would be a short one. :D

BTW, i agree, i yet have to find and empty harbor on GWX.

Thanks guys. If I go into a port and torpedo ships, will I be attacked? Are the ports in GWX defended?

Remember SHI where you would get orders to photograph a certain harbor and you had to get close enough to do the job, but the harbor was patrolled by destroyers looking for any US sub? That was sweet.

Thanks Jim, what do I download? What are these filefonts? I see about 7 links on your page. And do I have to delete and reinstall Commander?

thanks

Heck yeah they're defended. Those stupid little patrol craft in the harbors have a preternatural ability to find you, too. Make no mistake, trying a harbor raid in GWX is no cakewalk.

As for your other question, GWX needs to be installed over a clean install of SH3, patched to 1.4b. Yes, you have to download all 7 of the .bin files as well as the GWX installer .exe, but once you have it all downloaded, just run the .exe and it will take care of the whole installation. Once you have GWX installed, you can then reinstall SH3 Commander.

Depending on your connection, it can take a while to download, but as Alton Brown likes to say on the show Good Eats: "Your patience will be rewarded!"

Thanks Mookie, so I need to delete Commander, or delete everything and start again and add commander on top?

Delete everything. Uninstall SH3 Commander, uninstall SH3, delete the SH3 folder out of your C:/My Documents folder. Reinstall SH3, apply the 1.4b patch. Then install GWX 3.0, then install SH3 Commander.

You'll be good to go.

Speaking of ships in ports.... how do you guys treat enemy ships in neautral ports. I sank one and my mens morale went down to about half. Why? Am I not supposed to do that? It was an enemy ship, just sitting there, I could not let it just sit there and get away. How far away does it have to befrom port inorder for it to be "OK" for me to sink it?

If Germany is in a state of war with whatever country the ship belongs to then it doesn't matter where it is located.

If however, the port/harbour is neutral, it may be perceived by that country that you are firing upon it, especially if it has ships from its own country based within.

That's also true. But that's why they didn't do it historically, because they knew the same thing.

Thats sort of what I thought, but why the morale bump? It was a c3 at dock in Amsterdam.

EDIT: after thinking all night about this, it may me due to the loss of innocent dock workers.

or: Maybe my crew thought we were going to party it up in the local hash bars?
