When transferring to the XXI, no longer having the option of tail-shots, I came upon a quite efficient tactic of taking care of those bastards dropping explosive charges in our heads all the time. This is for the TI or TIII's, in an effort to save on the precious Zaunkönigs which are routinely allotted to the XXI's - though in small numbers in the beginning. You probably would be dependant on some very good number-crunching officers. Which I have....

When an A/S vessel is approaching, and you understand you have been detected try to, in good time, to offset him approx. 35 degrees on your bow. It is important to use slow speed in this maneuver to come to a standstill as he then shall proceed directly towards you. Keep your periscope raised so that he has your direction all the time. However, be observant of enemy fire to eventually lower it and raise it again not to receive major damage.

Now you have a choice. If he seems to have taken the bait and continues straight ahead you can already at 7-800 meters distance send off a TIII. Normally he shall not detect it. Prepare a TI, too - with opened door. If your TIII does not hit him you still have the option of sending off the TI before he makes the 400 meter distance mark. On highest speed he can not avoid the TI even if he sees it. When you have torpedo impact go ahead full speed to avoid him running over you. Then watch your nice work!

Needless to say your torpedoes are on magnetic fuze.
