View Full Version : Hourly weather updates by radio? is this possible somehow?

I was wondering, how nice it would be to have weather updates,on the hour, making our lives a bit easier when weather updates are critical, like when in known Air Zones and aircraft are a menace. So,while crossing the bay of biscay I would have an automatic update via radio on the weather instead of asking the navigator all the time, because that actual button press could be all the difference in making a perfect emergency dive and losing a hundredth of a second (I know its not much, but still) reaction time.
If it can be possible,I am thinking someone would have done this in a mod?
I would also like a mod that features extensive radio 'chatter' and reports on various things relative to the period. Not too keen on using it for music actually,I would instead make extensive use of reports etc.
Is it also possible to recieve convoy messages via radio, that are dynamic?

Cheers.

The radio messages are fixed pieces of text. And the weather develops in a dynamic way (if it wasn't so constant all the time :damn:). So there isn't a way possible.

Oh well, thanks for that,as long as I know :nope: ,shame mind you, would have been quite handy.
Just one more thing,is it possible to have dynamic radio reports of any kind in the game, dynamic in the sense that they develop as the war develops.

Thanks a lot.

It'd be nice to have a "standing orders" option. Like have your WO give you a weather update every hour or two hours etc. or dive for a hydrophone check every morning at 0600 without you having to do it all.

Exactly.
A fine alternative to radio updates.

I would have loved that feature too. But we won't until the community get's the sourcecode.

Thanks a lot.The messages for GWX allready reflects the development of the war. And some radiomessage-mods aswel. But it is still a fixed sequence of fixed messages.

Modify messages during patrols? No. As the radiomessage file would get out of sync with savegames. In between patrols are possibe I guess. The question is: based on what events? Since you can't change the course of the war, there is no point. Even if you prevent D-day by sinking every thing afloat, the ports in the vicinity will still be liberated at their date. Ships you have sunk can still re-appear during your next patrol as if nothing happend.

For that to be different you need an dynamic campaign engine (that produces new campaign files and message files before each new patrol starts) external from the Sh3 engine. And that would be a very Uber-coding project.

Perhaps you can make-do with Sh3Gen (German Intelligence updates based on savegames):

An hourly WO update would be nice, or even better a warning just when the weather changes.

A radio update wouldn't have been realistic anyway, as it was the u-boats themselves who sent weather reports back to BdU.

How about a weather report every 4th hour when watch crew rotate ?

The reason I suggested updates every 1 hour was mainly for when travelling in high risk areas like the Bay Of Biscay, where air attacks are very common. And knowing the weather every hour would enable you to get under in time when the weather suddenly becomes cloudy, which is a dangerous time for air attacks.Quite a few times I have been caught on the back foot during cloudy days.
