Yes, I'm pretty new to silent hunter and I am running GWX 3.0, I like it a lot.. but I really need to get away from auto aiming with torps and learn to manual... are there any good guides out there? Also I'm wondering if there is much documentation on flotilla paths for me to take; I would like to go from the VII > IX > XXI . Also, any other guides for operation of my U-boat would be much appreciated. Until next time, I'm off to read more on the GWX manual :D

The 2.Flottille goes from the VII to the IX and I think they also get the XXI late in the war.

Welcome. There are training manuals and HowToo's in the SS download site. Check out the SHIII Community Manual.

Unfortunately the community manual is down.. And also, I checked the downloads section and didn't see any category that would possibly contain training material.

Also I'm wondering if there is much documentation on flotilla paths for me to take; I would like to go from the VII > IX > XXI .

The XXI was only available in 11th Flotilla in Bergen. This flotilla did not have any type IXs, so unless you are using an ahistorcal mod, you will need to transfer between flotillas to get your desired boats.

May I suggest however, that you don't really want to move from VIIs to IXs to XXIs, because this will probably prove fatal before you get to the XXIs. The type IX boats are very vulnerable after about mid-1942 because they are not nearly as good as a type VII at avoiding aircraft. Get your type IX experience from '40 to early '42, and then get into VIIs until the XXI becomes available.

I'd suggest 2nd Flotilla from start of war to early '42, and then transfer to 11th flotilla when it is founded. Keep in mind, however, that nobody had a career that lasted through the entire war in combat boats. It would be more realistic if you followed a series of careers in 2nd then 11th. And of course, no type XXI ever actually attacked any allied ships.

Check this link out on manual targeting:
http://www.paulwasserman.net/SHIII/

Probably the best one out there.

This one will help you intercept the ships so that you can do the above:

There are a ton of other very helpful threads out there on manual targeting as well when you search for them.
