Wasn't the Freedom launched sometime last year? Or do they mean they're actually going to deploy it?

What I took from the article was "the Freedom was built for conterterrist activitys but hey wouldent it be a good pirate hunter?".

Any war ship since the invention of the musket should be able to see off
a few AK47s and RPGs in a speedboat.

The main problem is once theyve been 'seen off' they do so rather quickly and blend into the landscape. Now if you had a boat as fast or faster than theirs you take away one of their advantages. Not to mention radar and other over the horizon technologys.
