View Full Version : Cycling tubes - why does it keep opening and shutting the tube doors?

After all this time there is one feature of the game that has just recently dawned on me,I can't believe I have'nt mentioned it before, but when you cycle between tubes either by pressing 'Y' or manually clicking the corresponding number, why does it sometimes keep opening and shutting the doors?.This is both detrimental to losing vital seconds AND annoying
I only just noticed it moments ago, after messing around in the academy trying new ways and tactics on the small convoy.I fired first at the s.tanker, then at the c2,and then a s.merch, but when it came round to nailing the c2 the bloody doors shut on me.I quickly set the torps up again, and again it did it.
Not what you might call 'handy' when you quickly want to fire multiple torps at different targets :shifty:

I make a habit of pressing 'Q' before I make my settings.

What i'm saying Jim is this, and the tubes are already open at this point via 'Q',say if I fire tube 1 at one ship, then cycle to tube 2 for a second ship sometimes as I don't think it does it all the time the tube will close before I press 'fire'.Vice Versa if I went back to 1 then back to 2 again they would open.
It's not the sort of thing you want happening after you position yourself for what you think is a perfect opportunity.
I am thinking it may be a bug?,have you not experienced this?
Thanks.

i know how you feel, i have this happen as well. what i do is go into the conn tower and open them from the 3d switch set. they stay open 99% of the time
To get 2 or more tubes open at the same time you need to set a salvo shot, open them and then get back to single. The tubes will still be open even if you cycle between them.

I've had it happen where I selected a 4 torpedo spread. Then to make sure to not have a delay in firing, I selected each tube individually in the screen to right of periscope. Pressing Q for each tube. Then I fired thinking I still had the 4 torp salvo but only tube 1 fired.
Since learned that after selecting the salvo all you need do is hit Q once and all 4 doors will open. May not apply to above situation. Thought I'd mention it cause its been keeping me awake at nights. j/k :O:
Edited because I can't type if my life depended on it.

Thanks for the replies.
Normally there is no problem if you are planning to fire all 4 at once, either a spread or at a single target, yet say if I wanted to just go back and check on individual tube settings,or even update them due to a change of mind etc,the tubes would open/close,instead of simply staying,open/closed.
I think you get the picture, and now i'm going to have a look into geosub's link, this may cure it.

Sorry for the delay in responding....my answer is "no" though.
If I press 'Q' it remains open until I press 'W' or fire a torpedo and that is the same with whatever number I fire or how many number of doors I have opened.
I will double check though.

Yes, something like what you are describing happens to me fairly often. If I was to open all four doors on a Type7 boat during an attack run using the wep's screen, one of the tubes may shut on its own before I get to shoot it. It seems to be random in both the time it takes to close after opening up and which door actually closes. It can be really frustrating when, having just checked the tube door status on the wep's interior screen, you start shooting and get that 5 second or so delay before one of the torp launches when you know that moments before it was closed.
It may be career specific problem (bug) like the one where, if you stop the engines, you have to put the boat in reverse before you can go forward.

Greetings Bob.
It does'nt actually happen randomly for me as you mentioned, rather its tube specific.Say if I have all my settings correct in each tube, but for some reason I decide to go back and alter something, like depth, the tube would open/close,depends on its state at the time. So,if I press no2 then if the door was open it may shut, and so on onto no3.It doesnt appear connected to salvo firing, rather altering settings for individual firing at multiple targets.
I forgot,it only happens after actually PRESSING the tube number,or cycling the tubes in general.
Having said that, its not too much of a problem, just annoying sometimes.

I'm still struggling with trying to emulate same :damn:
Are we talking about a stock or a GWX installation? :hmmm:
I'm sorry if I'm missing something fundamental here
