I've spent 3 days in the Camranh Bay area and have downed 45K ?
Either I'm leading a charmed life or I'm just BRILLIANT (the obvious choice :haha: )
Also the Imperial Navy must realise by now that Captain Kirk (my captains name) is stamping his mark in the area.

The Tactic:
I was given a area to patrol but decided that I'm not running around like a headless chicken.. (disobeying orders once again), and chose ~50Nm SE of Camranh Bay as my base point.
I'd sit in one place and go down to 200ft and listen on the hydrophone/sonar..
I'd pick up a contact at max range, and monitor it for ~ 30 minutes to determine direction of travel.

This contact was moving fast as it moved ~5 degrees on my hydrophone bearing, from the time it took me to get from 200 to periscope depth. I surfaced set course at flank speed with no battery charging.
Was this the TF that we received a message about ?

I'd usually would run for 30 minutes then go down and do a sounding, but this time decided to run further. At 40 minutes There was smoke on the hazy horizon. Hells they got here fast. Scanned and saw 2 escorts in front of about 3 or 4 capital ships. Problem they going to fast for me to intercept, so kept on the surface for as long as possible, then submerged at flank speed.

Keep an eye on the first big ship, and it suddenly changed course in my direction. I slowed to 1/3 immediately and listened on sonar. Escorts are all all at max speed. I must have been detected. The Big ship is zigzagging and now it's changed speed. DAMM.. I had it at 25 knots. It took about 10 minutes for the escorts to DC the area about 1000yrds behind me, and more apeared out of the haze - whoops!!

Looking for the Big one as it creeps out of the mist, all the while sweeping the area keep an eye on the escorts.

Recalculate speed.. escorts, ship, escorts. It's getting noisy all around.
Big ship changes course again, and I move forward, and fire all 4 torps.
Looks like I missed..:o, then Bang - midships, dud :damn:... pause Bang, dud :damn: between the stern gun and the rudders.

OK 2 hits should slow it down, and I can finish it later.. down we go and hide under it... On the way down there's a massive explosion and get out the way very fast, going N under the other big ships...

If you're looking for a choke point.. it seems to be here at the moment. the markers are 3 ships I've downed, since floating around here for 3 days.
The seas have been are fairly rough so far so I think Mother Nature is on my side.

:D

Yeah...bad luck day for Tojo. :D Good luck for Nimitz. One less Kongo to tango with.
