Manual Targeting, range to target

I've come ck to Silent Hunter 4 for a bit of a play around, see if I can stick with a career long enough to make a dent in bot my time nd the war.

I've decided to give manual targetting a try this ime aroud, but I'm having problems with the range of the ship.

It seems that if I use the double image jobby of the attack periscope it gives me the correct range of around 1300 (in the torpedo tutorial), if however I then send that to the TDC, it shows the range to target as 9000. As such my torpedoes always miss.

If I don't use the double image, and manually adjust the dial to the range and then use the send to TDC button, it also gives me a rnge of 9000.

Is this bugged or am I using it incorrectly?

Have you identified the ship in the manual and sent that identification to the TDC before using the Stadimeter ("double image jobby") to get the range?

1272. That's what I get when I manually set 1300 yards and then send it to the TDC. Naturally, by setting range manually, I don't need to ID a target ... or use the stadimeter.
