Hey all,

Been lurking here for a few weeks, and thought I'd say hello. Got SH3 (and also sh4, though I haven't even touched it yet) about 2.5 weeks ago, and love it!

Aside from saying hello, I just wanted to give a plug to the website...I was actually looking for a naval strategy game centered around the dreadnaught age, and happened to run across subsim...saw the continuing dedication from all of you posting here to a 4-ish year old sub game, and bought it within hours. I haven't been able to put it down since (aside from real life destractions like work, of course, gah! always in the way..) Great game, and great support here. I've rarely had to search long for any answers to questions I may have. Just amazing support and enthusiasm here.

Anyway, after learning the ropes, I moved to GWX over the past weekend. Awesome experience, just from the improved graphics alone. Which leads me to a question: Is there a mod allowing external views of one's own sub but not allowing one to look at other ships? I like the "eye candy" of watching my own ship cut through the water and whatnot, but 1) I'd rather not take the realism hit for allowing it, and more importantly, 2) I can't help but resist the occasional urge to click to see a sighted boat every now and then. I imediately regret the 'cheating,' and would prefer that I simply not be allowed to. Is there anything out there that will allow sub-only views, or do I just need to accept the realism affect and learn some discipline??

Welcome.

The desire for a limited external view is an old one, and IFAIK nobody has made such a mod yet... although it might well be possible. I might look into it actually. It would be a nice way to enjoy the graphics without feeling like a cheat. :yep:

Hello. I'm afraid the only cure for the external camera cheat for now is like you said...discipline. Although many would argue that cutting the external view out adds a whole new dimension to the game some of us just can't give up seeing out own sub. :salute:

In any case welcome aboard...*sigh*...someday we need to hire a greeter girl who can spell...

Welcome aboard :salute:Good to see your enjoying the GWX glorious experience :yeah:,as for the discipline thing, its hard not to look at all the goodys on show:03: But as you mentioned looking before you sink does feel like cheating:doh: So I limit myself to only looking at my own sub(I didn't splash out on a 22'inch DVI monitor and flash graphics for nothing:o) And ships that are sinking,After all, whats the point of all the great explosive effects if you can't zoom in close and watch the crew paddle off(lifeboat mod:03:)while they're ship goes boom!:arrgh!:thats half the fun:yeah:

Welcome :salute: As for external view why, bother to skin a boat if you can't see it. :haha:

Won't even bring up screenshots. :DL

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

It's a tough decision. I like external views, not just for my own sub but for all the cool sights to see. Locking on to a passing Messerschmitt and looking at my u-boat from the air is a great experience. Wouldn't give it up for anything...except maybe my conscience. I'm working on that.
