Just bought a new Dell inspiron 530 with vista. I have been reading about the problems with vista but I cannot get the VANILLA game to even start. When I do the protection system window pops up and says " This application can be launched wirth a release version of Microsoft Windows 95 osr2.1/98 me/nt 4.0/2000xp servers 2003 only"
I then right clicked the sh 3 logo and tried to change the compatability settings but got a no go. Does anyone have a solution to this problem. I have an ATI Radeon 6600 series card and downloaded the latest driver for 64 bit.

Thanks,

Its a viic wants to play sh 3 again!!!

While I am no where near expert on the problem, I have had few problems running SH3 w/GWX for the past year. Several things come to mind, first, make sure that you are runnung as Administrator; second Vist has the ability to emulate xp, I don't remember how to activate it however. Third, you need to run in 32 bit I think.

I know this is rather vague, but its primarily to let you know that sh3 will run under vista, you just have to pull the right strings, and stick out your tongue.

Kiddding asside someone with a lot more knowledge than me will no doube be along. Also check the Mods forum and the stickey on this forum that covers the subject.

You have to run it on 32 bit.

There's a ton of info on how to install on Vista in the SH-3 forum. Thanks for the help. How exactly do you play in 32 bit. I AM no where near a computer expert. I think the computer came in 64 bit I am not sure. It has 6 gig of ram I believe.

If you get a newer SH3 disk from Amazon (The SH2 SH3 bundle is $10) it won't have the protection scheme on it. Vista isn't the problem, its a driver issue with the older disk that was released before 64 bit Vista.

I ordered the sh 2 sh 3 combo pack a few days ago. I will let you know how it works out. When you say run it as an administrator do you mean when you log onto the computer be the administrator or somthing else. Also when I install the game will I have to change the compatibility issue on the game? I was always able to load the game but as above the error sign would come on about only being able to run in xp.
Thanks for all the help

Silly question maybe, but have you tried right clicking the icon and choosing "Run as administrator"? That works for me atleast when running vanilla on vista.

No, the problem was the game would load and then the protection tab would say the game had to be run on windows 95 or xp. I couldnt even play the vanilla game. I just bought this 64 bit Vista computer and other games wont load either. Battlefied 2 and Battlefield 1942. They do have some pretty good games available for vista though.
