Hi guys,
I use SH3 with GWX 3.0 and SH3 Commander. I'm currently in 1940 with a VIIA u-boat.
What's the most realistic way of approaching crew turn arounds in dock? Usually I like to keep the same crews. Seems quite a lucky charm for me, but what do you guys think? How did they really do it throughout the war?

Doesn't SH3 commander move random crew members around for you?
In any case, simulating the real transfer of crew members would be the constant rotation of high-ranking crew members in and out. For their class, that is. Can't have a sub crewed entirely by chief seamen can you?

A good idea is to start your career
with a less experienced crew,
this way your crew will grow with you,
as your career develops :salute:

Thank you guys.
I guess the most realistic way of doing this would be to transfer crew out when they are promoted to a new rank?
It certainly must've made a u-boat an odd place to be, not having the same crew patrol after patrol

Not really that odd when you consider that the U-Boat force went from a handful of boats in 1939 to about 300 by 1943. That meant experienced officers with a few patrols under their belts were almost always in demand to skipper the new boats and experienced mechanics, technicians and torpedo men to provide a nucleus for a new crew. The American sub fleet in the Pacific went through similar growing pains but wasn't quite as elite a force to begin with.

Does crew experience have any impact in SH3?
I think i'll swap the officers around every 2 patrols, the petty officers every 3 and the sailors every 4....
