"And now... Full Fathom Five".

It was great. Amazing now how political correctness was ignored back then. :D
I have the VHS collection in the basement.
A little dated by today's standards perhaps, but if you can look past some of the 'propaganda' it's still a great series. The music is timeless.
My dad played his LPs of that series so much when I was a little kid that sometimes I feel like it was the soundtrack to my childhood.
I'm sure it drove Mom and my sister nuts, but Dad and I loved it.:DL

I recall watching ... when Tv was great with Amos and Andy, Life of Riley, Texaco Theater, Jack Benny, and on and on. We had a Zenith TV and I used to wait for the Network to start the day with Victory at Sea. If you remember test patterns you will be my age or older.

Crusader Rabbit came on at 4:55 PM when TV broadcasting started. It was live until 11:00PM when the National Anthem was played, the test pattern, and then snow. Kent, with the Micronite Filter presents "The Web." Milton Berle was live, too. Now that's old! :yep: Old_Tex

I loved Crusader Rabbit but it came on about noon on a local station.
Also Stan Freeburg's " Time for Bennie" puppet show.
And for all you SiFi fans there was Commander Buzz Cory and the Space Patrol.
Also remember too many test patterns, many times right in the middle of a program.
First time I saw TV it was a big console with a 6" screen and a big bubble magnifying glass in front of it. Showed all those corny B&W westerns.
Got Victory at Sea on tape but I think I'll go to Wally World and get the DVDs

We had a Zenith TV....
Ours was an Admiral. Console. Combo radio and record player on the right (record storage space below), TV on the left (speaker below). Door closed so you couldn't tell it was a TV.
Friday night fights were the worst. Groucho was the best ... but came on too late at night. For the longest time, I thought Tom Corbett was real ... 'cause, in one episode, they made mention of an earlier episode (that kind of thing only happens in real life, right?).
Later, lots of good programs on during the daytime ... My Little Margie, Meet Mister McNulty, I Married Joan ... something with Peter Lawford. And, of course, Saturday morning westerns.

Actually political correctness wasn't so much ignored,it simply hadn't been invented yet! People were so much more sensible back then.:know:

Our first TV was a Philco 17" (Eat your hearts out) Our neighbor had a 21" RCA (round tube). My little brother used to watch Winky Dink on Saturday morning. There was a plastic sheet that stayed on the TV screen via static electricity. He would wipe it with a rag that generated static electicity and stick it on the screen. Then, using a grease pencil, he would draw the various shapes on the screen when instructed to and the cartoon would run through that "world." We only got two channels, both UHF. How things have changed. :salute: Old_tex

The tv repairman knew all our names. Always had a case full of tubes with him. Amazed us how he could replace one of those things and the old b&w would come back to life. Combat! Popeye! The 20 Century with Walter Cronkite! Making me feel young again.:DL

Disneyland (before it was Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color). The Rebel (Johnny Yuma). "From out of the blue of the western sky comes...Sky King!" Adventures in Paradise. Hawaiian Eye. 77 Sunset Strip (snap snap). Peter Gunn. And of course Perry Mason.
The list goes on, and that's just off the top of my head.

I never thought about that, but yeah, I imagine there is an entire generation (or two?) that have never seen a test pattern/tone.
How about station sign-ons and sign-offs?
Crikey we are old. :dead:

Ok since we have some old guys/gals here, lemme ask a question.
Does anyone, who lived in the North East in the mid 60's remember a Kid's tv show that come on very early on Sunday. It was called the "Shhh" show because the first thing the announcer told you was to turn the volume down so as not to wake up your parents.
The show had cartoons and live action stuff for kids.
Anyone else remember this show? We were near Rochester New York.
The Frau does not believe this and thinks I am insane.
I need supporting evidence that this show did exist (I will address the insanity at a later date)

If you remember the name of the show, you probably can find a link to it on Wikipedia. I've found everything from Captain Z-Ro to Captain Satellite ... both were local SF Bay Area kids programs.
And, about Winky Dink, some of us couldn't afford the plastic screen overlay and had to use Saran Wrap instead. Trust me, it didn't work. Neither did trying to copy the secret messages on paper.

In Albuquerque, KOB TV had a kids show called K Circle B, hosted by Dick Bills. It had cartoons, etc. and a "peanut gallery", too. There was a little-known guitar player who was Dick's cousin from Delight, Arkansas by the name of Glenn Campbell. :salute: Old_tex

How about Kukla, Fran And Ollie, Howdy Doody, Lassie, Annie Oakley, Flash Gordon, Time for Beany, The Paul Winchell Show, The Roy Rogers Show, The Rootie Kazootie Club, Winky Dink And You, Super Circus, Andy’s Gang, The Cisco Kid, Sky King, The Magic Clown, Kids And Company, Junvenile Jury, The Pinky Lee Show, The Sandy Becker Hour, Officer Joe Bolton.
When TV was live I watched a tough Kid from the Bronx slug down a glass of Ovaltine during a live TV commercial and rear his head back and the entire glass of Ovaltine shot out his nose all over Sandy Becker and then the peanut gallery - they shut the picture and left the sound and ol' Sandy was screamin swear' words so they shut the sound and the picture came on and the peanut gallery was all over the place running and the kid was vomiting. I never laughed so much in my life!!

Fireman Frank (San Francisco) let a member of his "peanut gallery" sing the "kid's version" of the Bosco song. That was the last time we saw Fireman Frank (or Karl the Carrot) on TV.
Btw, you might be surprised how many of these programs can be viewed on YouTube (got a whole day to kill?) ... even a few commercials for Ovaltine ... attached to a few episodes of Captain Midnight (including one I actually remember watching).
