Noob question: External views

Greetings!

I'm back with another noob question. I've installed SHIII/GWX 3.0/SH3Gen/JSGME/SH3 Commander. I've been working my way through the tutorials and the Naval Academy...I must say this is quite a difference from back when I was playing Aces of the Deep :)

Anyway, how does one get to good external views of the boat? I've used the icon on the bottom of the vertical row on the left side of the screen and tried panning around with the keyboard & mouse, but I can never get a decent view of the boat. It's either all water or sky, or a distant view of the stern.

I did try searching the forum for an answer to this, but I got a gazillion hits, so please bear with me :salute:

Press F12 and use arrow keys to move camera forward/back and your mouse to pan around.

press SHIFT to speed up camera movement.

You can also pause the game after hitting F12 then the Del key at the bottom of the numbers section of your keyboard to give you a totally unobscured view for screenshots.

If you have camera on you can hit the keyboard period (.) and then use your mouse/arrow keys. If your WO spots a ship you can also see what he sees by the same method. The first view is your sub and the second will be what he sees. (Its a cheat of course)

Have not tried. If you try let us know.

When you press "." to see any other shps, you can also look at it from different angles. This might let you know if they are with any other merchant ships or warships.

No. Either you have all external views, or you have none.

Of course if you have one of the bridge free-cam mods installed you can pan back and look at your own boat, but still have no real external views.
