Had a patrol where I sank a Shokaku Class CV and 3 decent merchants (different attacks/encounters). Underwent a depth charging that took me over 2 hours to evade. 500 Miles from Perth, Mr CTD. And I hadn't saved the game since I left port :nope:.

Now I always save after a major encounter. And I haven't had another CTD either. Sure would lke to get that CV back :hmmm:.

Cheers!

before you play sh4 go to "start/ control panel/ internet options" and delete all temperary files and stuff so you dont run out of memory space which will force a memory dump and ctd. it only deletes temperary files, cookies. and remembered passwords so your not really deleting anything you need.

And/or use AlacrityPC and/or CCleaner to recover memory.
My memory goes from 35% free to to over 90% free with these.
I also have memory problems if I use nHancer.

First dont play for hours without saving.

Ive never had a CTD with either SH3 or 4.

ok..I have 4 gigs of ram though but I'll give it a shot next time...lest hope that unescorted convoy is scripted...maybe this'll give me a chance to intercept that task force I missed!

It does happen to me but only once in a great while. Never know why. Like Steamwake said, save often. I create three saves as I play and then just overwrite one of them after that.

Exactly right. I blamed myself for my costly CTD. It only made my sorrow more painfull :wah:.

Mant CTD are due to the game default points to gu.exe. Don't know if you've changed it yet or not. You simply to go to your target loading icon, hit properties..you will get a line that will end with gu.exe. You need to change the gu. to sh4. You need to change the target directory to read as follows. You can do a search on gu.exe and probably get a better explanation, but the gu.exe will load up and search online for crap, ect...known cause of crashes.

"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific2\sh4.exe"

Actually it searches for patches and game updates, not crap.

its a lot easier to simply right click the games exe file and send a new shortcut to desktop. to redo your start menu shortcut, first you must delete your original start menu shortcut.

then open game folder path "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific" and right click on the games exe file (put your mouse on it and it says "silent hunter IV" the other one is just an icon image) and tell it to "send to desktop create shortcut" then place the new shortcut from the desktop into the start menu folder where you deleted the original shortcut. no typing so no typos or errors like when you failed to notice you told him to use that description but it has a 2 in it so it wouldnt work like that in his game.

It's crap because it's creates most CTD's. I played the game for two months with the game crashing constantly. Once I applied that fix, no more....
