First I would like to salute Sharkleys efforts to see who is the best U-boat captain in his "tonnage wars" because I know he has indeed put a lot of time and thought into this concept. There are some concerns that other players have talked about and therefore I would like to propose our idea of doing a similiar competition that would be fair for all and I would appreciate your input into the matter.

We at ComSubsPac would host a MP contest that would run under the following format.

1. SH3 GWX 3.0 with CSP online game mod enabled. This mod in our download section reduces the load time of the game from over 3 minutes to about 45 seconds and can be found after registering on WWW.ComSubsPac.com (http://www.ComSubsPac.com). This would be the only mod enabled as the fewer mods enabled the less likely of a CTD.
2. We use Teamspeak and and an easy connect will be found on our home page. If you do not have have TS d/l here WWW.TEAMSPEAK.COM (http://www.TEAMSPEAK.COM). Download Teamspeak2 (client) and its free.
3. 8 subs in a map and each sub seperated by at least 20 KM with an identical task force/convoy coming at them. Basically 8 exactly the same single missions rolled into one MP map. The fact that you are not near another sub would eliminate friendly fire and also not have a another captain get credit for a ship that you hit and otherwise would have gone down.
4. Game would be played at normal realism and with limited torps.
5. The host of the game would be excluded from the competition for obvious reasons and would oversee the game to ensure that no one is using cheats and to declare the winner of that map.
6. Time limit would be one and half hours.
7. There will be 6 maps presented over a few weeks time period starting with 1940 thru 1945. 3 maps I have already made.
8. The winner of each individual map who has the most reknown would receive a "token" and the captain at the end of the 6 maps who has the most tokens would be declared the best.
9. Each captain would have the same sub that the map maker has picked.
10. If you die you would be out of the competition for that map but not excluded from playing in the next map. You must survive to have your reknown counted.
11. In the event of a tie those captains would play in a tie breaker map.
12. There will be prizes for the top 3 captains. We are currently discussing what they will be and will be posted here soon.

If you are interested in playing, post your name and country here, as well as any questions you may have. We are currently looking at April 25th to start the first map.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting

Thanks Sharkley and I will take you up on your offer to help if we need additional hosts. It all depends on how many players we get who want to pit their skills against other Kaleuns. It should be exciting to see how players go about attacking the enemy with different strategies. I would well imagine that not too many captains will last very long in the maps...than again, I could be wrong.

I Wonder if Subsim Lovers' here,
Would go for the Prize?
Say a New Computer?
X-Box?
Playstation 3?
Guess if the Prize was Included :hmmm::hmmm::hmmm::hmmm:
Modders and All here would Jump at It!
As Worldwide Recession Holds,
This is A Great Competition,
Maybe its
Time to Man Your Sub:lurk:
Have Fun,
Happy Hunting :arrgh!:

I guess the time is not right for a world wide competition as only one player (Coreykill) signed up for what I thought would be a well attended and exciting event. Also the fact that only 1 player ( Sharkley) made a comment reinforces the fact that this appears to be a dead issue. His postive remarks did give me hope that this would be the start of what has been missing in the Silent Hunter world....competition! I was thinking in the beginning we would have 50+ players interested, but I was wrong. In trying to figure out why, I have come to the following conclusions:

1. Some players who have tried to connect on MP keep CTD because they are not aware of the issues that have to be addressed using MP ie; everyone using the same mods, port configuration, etc. These are matters that can be easily sorted out using Teamspeak, Ventrillo, etc.

2. Some players do not have Broadband.

3. Some players have older puters which would not support a MP map.

4. Others are heavily into their careers and do not have the time.

5. The many modders are very busy modding and for that we are thankful.

6. I have thought long and hard on the format to make it as fair as possible, but maybe there are some things about it players do not like.

7. Noobs thinking they do not know how to play that well yet and thinking what is the use of joining. IMHO it would be a great learning experience and you would learn from watching the old salts here.

8. It could be a language barrier.

9. Players who do not have GWX 3.0 (what are you waiting for) and just have vanilla or a combination of the many mods out there and do not realize or know how to go about making multiple installations of SH3.

10. Could be that just the word "competition" is not to their liking and having to come to grips that they are are not as good a captain as they think they are.

I am sure I have left out other "reasons" and I hope I do not come across as bitter. Its just another idea that has died on the vine. I do believe however that the time will come when the idea of a contest will come about to pit your skills as captain against other kaleuns.
