The news comes as the cut-off date for free mainstream support for Windows XP ends. From 14 April, Windows XP and Home plus Office 2003 enter their "extended support" period.
This means the only updates and bug fixes these products will get will be to improve security.

Good. No more "your computer needs to restart before the updates can take effect" nags. :D
Still waiting to hear from MS about that RC though. :hmmm:

XP updates are they blardy worth all the hassle?
Two pcs main one has antivirus/firewall/antispyware XP is all decked out to stop nasties getting in, updates to download automatically till recently i decied to turn updates off for good for XP.
Other PC - piece of rubbish basic firewall, no antivirus or spyware used only for the internet and a few old games in fact im using it now i even use this machine for downloading most of the time. OS is xp with service pack 1 updates are turned off can't put service pack 2 on as it causes the pc to run to slow lol. Yeah its quite a piece of ****. But without all the safe options on it has never caught a virus. Yet my main PC which is rigged for protection gets a trogan and virus every now and then.
