Well, realistically, you'd have to surface in order to send a dispatch back to HQ, and depending on the situation they either order you in or tell you to back off and let someone else handle it. And also realistically, this is WWII, not the present-day Gulf War; unless they happen to have forces in the area (besides you), the best they can do is send someone to intercept it later on.

HMMM I was 8000 yrds or do away from them and surphased and sent a contact and patrol report and did not get any message back..:hmmm:..It is kinda a rough sea.....

A lot depends on what period it is in the war. If it's 1942 and you spot a juicy task force in Japanese waters, the nearest American airplane is about 2,000 miles away.

The one brief exception to that would be the April 1942 Doolittle Raid. :salute: But they were out to bomb land targets.

The Battle of the Bismarck sea in March of 1943.

B 25s skip bombed the Japanese convoy. Not my first choice either but they did the job. The convoy was massacred and the B25s scored 17 hits. One thing the B 25 had was speed(285mph) and alot of forward firing power when modified for low level ground and sea attack. 10 50s brought to bear from one push of a button from the pilot could light you up. Some models had 75 mm cannon mounted too.
