I was having a conversation with a buddy of mine that i had grown up with who like myself was deeply interested in the deeper workings of politics, history and the way of the world. This discussion was on the topic of media influence on modern society in shaping the veiws of the common person. How much of the common perception of right and wrong is shaped by well picked headlines and statistics desighned from the outset to change a veiwpoint?
An example of this is the issue of firearms commonly thrown about as one of the last great evils of American society. You often hear of how privately owned firarms take lives, but how often do you hear of how hey save lives? How often do you get to see a story from the point of veiw posted below?

My point is that in the last 20 years ive seen American society and culture change drastically. How much of that is a natural progression vs how much of the change was brought about by outside influance via media control and spin on certain issues?
Another example is the War on terror and the Iraq invasion. To the average American a few years back they were one and the same issue and the majority could not tell you the differance between Saddam's Baath party, Al-Queda and the Taliban. The national news often treated them as one and the same! Distortion, fabrication and spin seem to be the key words of todays unbiased free press.
What are your thoughts on the western worlds free press and their influence on your society and culture? Do you beleive they have an agenda? Do you beleive they are unbiased? Do you think they have a powerfull influance on society?
