OK, I gotta vent, so I hope you don't mind that I do it here. And yes I sent a complaint to Denny's about the response that I recieved.
Anyone else here remember the Breakfast Dagwood? (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dagwood_sandwich&diff=250110823&oldid=248409211) http://b4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/00233/46/33/233683364_m.jpg The item use to be served at Denny's Restaurants until the about 2004, when it was removed from the menu claiming that it was to unhealthy (http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-dennys-breakfast-dagwood-i53030), even though other menu items served at Denny's had more calories or could be see as equally unhealthy.
Having talked to a long time employee of Dennys I had found out that part of the reason they stopped making it was they item required a specific bread that was only used for that food item. Therefore, it became uneconomic to purchase that bread for a single item, and thus the menu item was dropped. However, all the other components, the eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage, etc were still carried (just not the bread (a boule bread (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boule_(bread)) (which was hollowed out to make room for the 3 egg omlette whichw as placed inside))).
Well I have been told in the past that if I could get the bread they would make it for me. And low and behold I have found a place that was willing to make the bread for me so I can bring it to Dennys and have my heart clogging dream fulfilled. Well low and behold I was told by the manager (who had only been there since 2007, many years after the Breakfast Dagwood was last offered) that he didn't know what it was, and therefore, I couldn't order it, even though I was willing to pay a premium for it to be made ... even though he wasn't going to be the one making it.
Sure, they have the Grandsland Breakfast Sandwhich now. But that pales in comparison.
Am I the only one who has found memories of a menu item that is no longer served, and have been meet with the same blocks in trying to get what you want?

Well not that I can think of. Going a bit OT here, it makes me sad how much potential is wasted with the various fast food places, especially the huge corporations like McDonald's etc., that could actually serve some pretty good food but don't.

Last fast food item I bought from a big chain was a chicken salad from McD, 6,40 e here in Finland. It came with the Ceasar salad in a little plastic bag, I didn't use it because it's nothing but fat & sugar. The salad was ok. Usually I go for a kebab or vietnamese.

Edit. If you non-Finns want to try something interesting in the bread department, I'd recommend Finnish-style rye bread. It's good and healthy. This Finnish-style rye bread looks very delicious, I wonder if it is available in Germany. Maybe it is but with a different name? :hmmm:

Edit: lol, a quick search on the internet revealed "rye" bread is "Roggenbrot" in Germany, so yes it is available :)
The one on the first picture looks very good anyway...

Yes the Roggenbrot looks to be quite similar, in this pic (http://www.regionalerbeck.ch/bilder/spezialitaeten/roggenbrot.jpg) it looks exactly like a Finnish rye bread loaf. Kinda looks like an alien brain or something. :) Coulnd't find proper rye bread when I was in the UK, Belgium, Netherlands or France. Just toasts, baguettes, etc.

Here's another pic (http://www.toimisait.com/snacky/userData/burgers/burgers-ruisburger.jpg) that shows that you can use a rye bread 'bun' for a burger, it tastes good and is more chevy then a normal wheet bun that is basically just dough you don't have to chew or taste.

Oh yeah this burger looks tasty indeed. So rye bread is the one with a hole in the middle? I only found out rye is Roggenbrot by changig language from Enlish to German in Wikipedia; English article "Rye" German "Roggenbrot" it's a bit confusing.

Here is an idea, why don't you just make it yourself. Supposedly its a 3 egg omelet (or scrambled), with bacon, American cheese (or 3 cheese), and shaved ham stuffed between sliced boule bread. Sounds very simple to replicate to me. Heck you could even make the bread, its pretty generic.

I would offer to make you a recipe, but I've never had or seen one so I don't know how its assembled exactly. So my advice is to remember how it is assembled and whats in it (some places said 3 cheeses). Then make a basic omelet or scrambled recipe adding what ever goes in it (you will need to pre cook the sausage and bacon) and assemble it like you remember it. You may not get it exactly right the first time but with some trial and error you should get pretty darn close. Last keep in mind your average fast food chain tends to use cheaper products in their food, and that will affect the taste.

They told my dad once at dennys that they didnt have crackers... When they did... The dumb dumb was too lazy to go get them.

NS, I will see what I can do about replicating it at home, but it's not the same, but might even be superior, you know what I mean.

Biggles, There are better places than Dennys here for breakfast, that I will not argue with. However, there is a nastalga factor that I am going for.

As for bread, Focaccia; used to make a Beef Tenderloin sandwhich that my I have named for the Mrs, who like me loves good beef.

Ya I realize that it wont be quite the same (you probably can make it better though by using quality ingredients). Still though its better then nothing, and that is one of the easier things to replicate at least.
