Hello!
I am interested in downloading this game right now but am a bit confused when am looking at the game reviews giving just a 3 stars for this game compare to SH3 5 stars, so is this game really good, or I shouldn't bother buying it. Need your input and comments to help me out to take the decision, if I buy the game please.
Thank you!

Yes, if you use the mods. Played both and I prefer SH4 over three by far, but that could be taste. I think the mods are much better.

What do you mean if I use the mods? What mods and where I get them please?
Thank you!

Everything about SH4 is better. From the graphics to the theatre of play. I would suggest you get the current revision game and the expansion pack. Having been a former submariner I get far more fun and satisfaction from SH4 than any other sim and that includes SC and DW. It is a hunt...Also SH3 you have to babysit your crew, which would not be the CO's job to begin with. I have no idea why they put that in the game to begin with. Also keep in mind this is a sim/game. I would play the stock expansion pack and get your feet wet (NPI) before you start modding the game.

You can get them here at Subsim or at...

Mod and patch SH4 and you'll have a good time. If your looking for SH3 with better graphics, you're not gonna get it. Well, at least not yet...
BTW, welcome! :)
We bitch allot here, but we all love subs and will do anything to help each other out. That includes you too...
Definitely worth the price. Come on in. The waters fine!!!
(I recommend RFB and RSRDC).

Hello!
Well I am downloading the game at this moment, the bundle pack. The SH4 and also the U-Boat addon, at Direct2Drive. Plus I have downloaded the 1.4 patch if am not mistaking.
Any cues or advice you can give are very welcome, first time ever in a sub simulation, so I don't know anything about it, and surely what to expect, but for what I have seen tonite on the net, it looks very impressive, visualy speaking.
Thank you! :DL

Well let me tell you, Ssgt_Wolverine... I just got done playing the game for the first time - on a machine I was not sure would run it... and WOW - loved it! Takes a few to figure it out... but then holy hardtails Batman, how did I miss out on this game for so long? I honestly have to wonder... it is now 3:52 AM here in EST and I've probably been playing for about 6 hours. Wow.
Let me share my first sunset with you... it was very relaxing after 3 kills in the convoy training mission. Yep... I'm hooked. Now for all those mods!!!

There a "Sub School" tutorial which will help you get familiar with the nuts and bolts of stearing and diving. Once you begin a Career or short mission be wary of time compression because i have messed up big time running into shoals that I could not see on the Nav map. Be patient with the sim and get to know what each function does. Once you feel ready for a Career. Save your progress. I save usually after each kill. Also take time with manual targeting. This does take some time to get but you can have the crew do this if you want to just get out there and have some fun sooner. Those kind of selection are in the game play options. The realism you choose can always be changes later (only in port) as your skills improve. As I said the mods here are really awesome but my personal advise is get familiar with the stock game first and then the reason and application of the mods will be much more clear to you later on. Have fun!

Direct answer to your original question:
SH3 is released. It sucks. Many bugs. Four patches later it's pretty darned good. Four years and many many many mods later it's one of the best sims ever.
SH4 is released. It sucks. Many bugs. Five patches later it's pretty darned good. Better basic game than SH3, many earlier complaints answered. Better graphics. Better crew management. Better campaign. Two years and many mods later it's on its way to being the best sim ever.
Until SH5.
Yes, you should get it. You won't look back.

Let's see. You can take a family of four to a movie and not be able to keep the hit below $50.00. That will entertain you for a couple of hours.
You can go see a rock concert. Probably that will cost you $50 to 5,000 dollars :D. Couple of hours of yuks for that too.
How about taking the family out for dinner. Can you do that for $50.00? Maybe. There's an hour of chomping.
Or you can buy SH4 for $50 if you get totally ripped off. You can enjoy that one for years, as can everyone in your family if they are so inclined.
The meal wins hands down!!!!!:har: OK, I really don't know. You do the math.

I think I mentioned this already... but I found SH4 at Ebay for 9.99 with free shipping! And when you start using RR's theories of opportunities available for that amount... I don't think anything else compares... nothing even close for just $10.
I must be living right. <G>

I guess I can shoot myself now and die happy.
I also mentioned that as patched by you they're both pretty darned good games. Without you guys we wouldn't have them at all. I'm playing SH4 right now and loving it. I'm not going to get out of this without a lot of begging, am I?
