Your running Vista, correct?
Did you install outside of the Normal Program Files?

Yes, Windows Vista Home Premium. I sure did install outside of Program Files..thats why I am going crazy on the question why did this happen.

Simple,
Vista is a Seperate Issue with Games,
Did you Run The GWX 3.0 As Administrator?
If Not? you will get the Above Error,
Compatibility Issues,
Simply,Re-Install,
All,
Plus Make Sure Your SH3 1.4 Is Clean,
Check Compatibility Files,Delete All,
Now Install SH3 1.4 Plus GWX 3.0,
Happy Hunting.

Even though I Pre-Tested Vista way before release?
I don't know much about it.
And I don't run Vista yet.
Hang in there cause many do
and can help you.
I'm waiting for some parts to come in for a new system and will probably
need the help myself.
:haha:
I'll be useing Vista on it for several reasons.

May I Say
[1]Vista will not Run your Old Version Of SH3
If you have an Old Disc,Forget It,
Compatibility Issues Comply,
[2] Keep Trying And You Will Get Error Messages,
Why?Vista Is Supreme In Graphics,
Providing You Use The Correct Graphics Card,
Home Edition With Vista,Ok,
I now use Vista 64bit,
Never Have I Seen Graphics in Gaming So Good
In Gaming,
Multiplay Is The Future,
Like It Or Not,
Its Here,
Time to go with The Future :yeah:

I have found NO possible way to fix this. I have ran everything in administrator, I have kept it out of program files( I also tried it in pf but no do)....I will not give up until it works!
Here is a closer picture of this stupid error

Have you tried disabling DEP? I've found that pointless piece of code blocking many games on vista.
open a command prompt as the admin and type "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff" (without the quotation marks) to turn off the hunk of junk. and see if it works, if you wish to turn it back on simply change the last part to "alwayson"
If it fixes it be aware that system restarts sometimes turn DEP back on as do windows updates.

On the other hand is it a brand-new disc? If so, it comes already patched and loading the patch on top of it will break it. That doesn't look like the message that goes with that problem, but you might try re-installing without the patch. Run the game once, but only play the Naval Academy. This will not only tell you if it works, but makes the Academy much easier as well.
Always try the basic game before patching. Always try the patched game before loading any mods. This will help isolate the problem, as well as show you how much better it is with those mods.:sunny:

Did you try updateing StarForce?
:hmmm:
I remember some posts about that being a MAJOR PITA!
(Good Lord! Now I have to buy ANOTHER copy of SH3!)
Newer Releases don't use that Virus and come already patched
to 1.4b

are you sure you opened the command prompt as the administrator? (right click and then select "run as admin") If you don't it just says access denied all the time.
DEP has proved a hell of a problem for me on vista, I have to make sure its disabled in order to effectively run many games, KOTOR I & II, Hitman games, SH III, infact almost anything pre vista. Progess is being made in the areas of irritation and stupidity by microsoft at an alarming rate!
I'll be glad when I get employed again and can afford an external ethernet HDD so I can run Fedora 10 for my general PC usage and get away from windows!

Umm, I'm pretty sure the Protection Error is talking about the fubar StarForce protection system.
As yet there is NO compatibility fix for Starforce & Vista. This was admitted by the SF developers.
There is only one way to allow SH3 to run on a Vista system which has issues with SF but that is not allowed to be linked to here on Subsim.
Needless to say, you will have to find a way to run SH3 without the Disc in the tray.;)
I've said enough *poof*.......

As long as You have the Old Disc,
It will not work with Vista,
Only solution is
Purchase the Protection Free Version
of Silent Hunter 3 here on Subsim,
Its very cheap,
All the latest Discs
do not have Starforce protection,
as Ubisoft stopped all association with Starforce,
Years ago,
Avoid the headache,
Purchase a New Disc :arrgh!:

Here is your SF driver for Vista: http://www.star-force.com/support/sfdrvup.zip
Install the game, but don't start it, install the new SF drivers, restart your computer and finally start the game - it should work now.
If you want to remove the old SF drivers first, here is a removal tool:

lmao, I've dealt with just about every problem on every game I own, so I know what I am dealing with. Haha, it is so funny how these game developers can't figure crap and the gamers do the thinking. I just ran it now and it says "Kernel.DLL" not found...gettin somewhere...:salute:

Or just do what danlisa suggested and get the no-cd crack. Works, so you don't have to buy the game yet again.

Well, I am very strict on downloads..this gaming pc is never going to have any viruses on it. Can you tell me a good and clean download of the no-cd crack?

It's against Subsim's policy to link that kind of stuff, but Google and a handful of cautious approach should get you there. If you're uncertain on your virus protection you can always use these:

I have Zone Alarm, I googled it and I found a nocd crack with no virus or spyware! It seems to have worked..Star-Force was the problem.
