View Full Version : Why can't I fire the stern torps?

Sometimes I had a DD (or other ships) right at my 180 and I am in need to fire a stern torp without aiming, just open the hatch and aim it in free, so to speak, but most of the times it would't work! Why is that? I can do that any time with the front torps, but when I try with the stern the message "can't compute with that solutuion!" or something like that appaers. Why is that?

8 out of 10 times this happens with speed on slow and 10 out of 10 times when the torp speed is set on high... Is it a bug? I have the last patch installed and no mods, just a clean install.

Someone knows?

Coz it's darn anoying being a skipper and being told what I can't do on MY ship I'll tell yer? ;)

that means your solution is wrongly set (or not set). Like straight ahead, where a stern torp can't turn to. So you'll have to (re)set your solution before the torpedo will fire correctly.
Get a lock on the enemy DD, set the TDC speed dial to 0 and press the red position keeper button. Now your torpedoes should go straight to the enemy at your 180.

I usually play on the German side, in U-Boats you can manually set the solution on the attack map.

If I want to do a Down the Throat from the stern and you have the DD right at 180 on your scope looking aft, just make sure you have him lined up on the stad at 180 and input the info, set speed to zero and the torp will go straight at him. He will probably zig, so I shoot spreads of 3, one center and the other two a few degrees right and left of center. He'll run into one of them. Just pray for no duds.

I've seen this happen numerous times. For me, it usually happens when the range has been reset to zero. There must be a valid solution entered in order to fire, and a range of zero won't work. :D
