SH3 Playing questions about SH4

In SH3 when open torpedo door was given it was oranged out until completed then turned white to tell you the door was open. In SH4 I noticed that this does not happen, how do you know when the door is open. Also I can barely hear my crew speak to me even with the "voice" volume to the max any way to fix this ??
