View Full Version : Amazing Headphones for SH3

Hey all,
After playing with stereo speakers for years and years and years, I finally bit the bullet and bought myself some Gaming headphones, now I have used headphones in the past and headphones with boom mic, but they have all killed my head, I have tried many shapes and styles and they all seem to find pressure point and cause me headaches. Well my search is over.
http://www.trittontechnologies.com/products/TRIUA512.htm
Picked up the AXPC from Tritton USA these are 5.1 surround sound headphones and let me tell you the experience in SH3 is scary at best, you hear ever creak and groan in amazing surround sound the headphones even have a built in subwoofer for DEEP bass.
they have 8 speakers in each phone and you have 5 volume controls to set them up the way you like them, software is easy to install and they even have a removable mic. top quality all around.
My only complaint would be they are a bit heavy but the performance is outstanding..
I give them 4.5 outta 5
So if your looking for some great headphones check these babies out..
Nice tip :yeah: will take a look at them if I find them in my local store :shucks:
Where did you get them from, and how much?
My wife and I compete for volume control, her on the TV, me on the PC - it'd be nice to have a set of decent headphones.
Whereabouts in Ontario are you?

I found it at Amazon listed for $71. A lot of the reviewers there mention problems with the software on Vista. Apparently it works better on XP. If you have Vista, you might check to see if they have updated the drivers recently.
I only play SH3 with headphones. You can pick up hydrophone contacts much better and DC attacks really come alive. I just have a $15 TekNmotion with a mic. The mic is on a flexible boom and I just bend it along the headband so its not in the way. These don't have the bass response but are real light weight and comfortable. Only the cord is a bit long and tends to get wrapped around the arm on my computer chair.

The Tritton looks awesome, but I'm sticking with the Sennheiser PC161. It's light... really light; that means less pressure on my noggin.

Thanks Sharkley,
I was looking for an up grade on a headset. And yes there's nothing better than to listen on sonar with a headset...adds to the realizism..:yeah:

Damn, this headset looks amazing.. i almost bought it earlier today, however i'm probly going to end up ordering a pair tomorrow.
On another note, one thing i do to add to the immersion of this game.. I normally have the sounds going on my surround sound system, but when its time to dive and listen in on the hydrophone.. i have a cheap logitech headset setup with a Y adapter.. put them on for the hydrophone and you can hear it just like in a real sub it would seem.

Yep. :yep:
I'm sure that the sound quality won't be top of the line, but how can you complain for 8 bucks. My main concern was comfort, and at least looking at the picture it seems as though the ear pieces are well padded.
Sharkley - yup, figured they'd be around $100, will have to ask the wifey if it's OK.
Mississawgwa huh? Neat, I'm just down the road a few miles in Ingersoll (just before London on the 401). Wonder how many Ontarioians are on the board?

Yes, that was one of my main concerns as well. But thos Trittons are comfy and cozy. I wore them for a few hours and zero head ache and the sound was amazing, deep water dives are creepy at best and depth charges really do rattle your brain now.

Ask !?! I had to beg.. they are worth it. As for Ontario Folks on this board I am sure there are a few at least being we are in the most populated Province in Canada.
Heck I play SH3 with two local guys, one guy at the place I work and the other guy lives down the street..now that is local. We all get togather on Ventrilo to chat while on patrol..if your interested let me know I'll pm you some info.

I just bought a pair as backup. When I am not doing TS or Skype and on a SP sim or watching TV or listening to music and do not need a mic I use these:
http://www.meritline.com/dj-headphones-with-reversible-earcups---p-33761.aspx
The L-R ear sets are not fixed and shape well to my head and the sound is extremely good. Never use my speakers in any SH anymore!
:salute:
I got me a nice USB headset and the sound is amazing, nearly crapped myself when a DC went off!:D

Well.. after reading a BUNCH of awesome reviews on the headset the op mentioned.. i almost ordered them last night. I decided i wasnt going to, since my headset now still worked..
I guess it was a sign.. when not 2 hours after i was going to order them, the left ear in my headset stopped working... looks like the new cats been chewing on cords.. So i had to get them.
I'll have to take care about keeping my new pair away from the cats play time :)

Headset story:
So I am challenging myself to make it through the entire war alive and with my original crew - last time I almost made it when KABLAM! I was pounded to oblivion with my snorkel up peacefully plowing ahead and RAF radar picked me up. Headset on, I was blown away and scared sh-tless as the boat went out of control and my brain could not grasp what just happened and down we went with all manor of scary sounds, poop-in, squirtin, and yellin! Yep, you will never play without a stereo headset again.
:salute:
BTW I will make it this time and still grabbing fair tonnage. Been in a few good scraps too. NO MORE SCHNORKLEIMMAHEREKILLME.

Welp, yesturday i got my AXPC headset.. I must say, this is a big change from my last headset. It took a bit of tweaking to make the music sound good, and the bass/built in subwoofer isnt too impressive. But hey, thats not what they're made for right?
another thing to get used to, they're freakin huge.. the cord is pretty big also, maybe it'll hold up longer?
Anyways.. i loaded up my first patrol with them last night.. (I posted a whole story about it, Epic Patrol.., however i accidently posted it in Mods workshop)
so far, they're pretty sweet.. can feel the deisels chugging a long nicely behind you.. or right in front if your looking that way.. and getting a bearing on airplanes buzzing around is a bit easier. After a while, the DC's started after i was spotted by a destroyer.. its the first time i've ever stayed in the command room for the experience, and boy was it crazy.. I could tell just about how far away they were hitting, they got pretty close and damaged me a few times.. that was pretty sweet.
Overall, for the price in comparasin to other 5.1 headets, i'd say they're pretty decent.. but if your looking for super quality, or a lot of bass.. you can defenitly do better. i'm defenitly happy with them.

Loads of EQ setting in the software you install, be sure to check them out, as for bass I had to turn mine down it was so powerful, but you are right they are big, but they are built for sound not style mind you they still look good. I really enjoy my set, glad you like your to. Took me awhile to find the "just right" settings..

While I do appreciate the offer Sharkley - my hours are nuts, and I hardly play SH3 anymore. About one hour 3 days/week, a few hours on Sunday maybe.
SH3 bogs down often on my (older) rig, and I'm not even sure if my intraweb connection would be good enough...

Yeah, it took me a bit to get everything setup perfectly, now they rock.
On another note, if any of you guys play first person shooters.. this is defenitly the right headset for the job. After a few hours of playing Counter-strike Source, i deemed that these headphones are like hydrophones for any game, i could hear EVERYONE running around, and could tell exactly which direction, and just about how far they were. and hearing flashbangs go off halfway across the maps is always a nice feeling.

Well my HP-259 set came yesterday. You know, the $7.99 pair that I ordered a few days ago. I tried them out last night, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed.:yeah: The bass is really good. No distortion whatsoever, comfort is above average. No headache's yet. I would have to recommend these to anyone looking to save some dough, and to be able to still have nice set that does what it's suppose to do fairly well.

Headphones make a difference.
I once read on another W.W.II game forum about a guy that had purchased a high dollar set of phones and tried them out. In the game he was playing as a sharpshoter and had snuck up to the front line. He found a good hideing spot behind a hill and was laying in wait for a target.
Then out of a stroke of genious he figured that he could turn the volume up to it's highest setting in order to hear enemies comeing closer.:know:
But...he did not notice the group German 88's on the other side of the hill, and when they opened up he couldn't hear for a week he said. :har:
