I purchased, downloaded and installed the game a couple of weeks ago. I have been so busy playing it I haven't paid much attention to mods. I now a few questions.

How do I tell the version? On one of the opening screens on the lower right corner is a "V 1.0" I take it that this means I have version 1.0? If not, where is the version number. It seems to work OK, with a few glitches. (Crashed a couple of times trying to reload a saved game)

What patches should I be applying?
Thanks

First patch to 1.04

Then spend some time on the SH4 Mods Forum deciding what you want. Read a few threads on "RFB" and "TMO". Most of the Mods now only work with ver.1.5 which is only available with a purchase and download of SHIV: U-Boat Missions, but you may find some for 1.4.

Once you purchase 1.5 (around 10 bucks) it's back for more mods.

You'll want to get the JSGME mod enabler software. It's free and will make your life SO much easier for installing and uninstalling mods.
You've probably noted some graphic glitches and/or game anomalies while playing with the vanilla version. While not all glitches are addressed by the mods they make the game so much more enjoyable.
If you are comfortable with the game as it is, then as JChanning has said, have a look at the mods.
Trigger Maru Overhauled (TMO) and Real Fleet Boat (RFB) are sort of supermods which address a whole range of issues (both graphic and gameplay) with the stock game in an effort to make the game more challenging, authentic and/or historically accurate.
Run Silent Run Deep (RSRD) is a campaign mod which addresses a range of perceived historical anomalies within the game (i.e. merchant ships travelling in the appropriate shipping lanes etc).
As an example, I run the game with TMO and RSRD and find to be excellent. Others prefer RFB and RSRD. Others prefer just TMO or RFB without the RSRD. It's all a matter of personal preference.:salute:

I think you can still buy Silent Hunter Gold. I just got another copy at Walmart a month ago. It is patched to 1.5.

There are plenty mods for 1.4, just don't expect support unless you're playing 1.5.

Here is a link on how to correctly dl a mod. However, a few issues. It gives you a older version of TMO to load. When you decide to load a mod, decide which one you want. Many of the mods were using filefront that has closed, so you'll have to find the alternate site that modders are using.

If you decide to just stick with 1.4, I would advise to load Websters GFO. It's more of a patch and you can download it and just copy it over your data file...just follow directions. It's listed on the mod page as Game Fixes.

They still have TMO and RFB for 1.4, but you're missiing out on all the newer stuff without 1.5.

I was running TMO for 1.4 before I got 1.5. I also used the PE4 env. mod.
It was plenty of fun.

There are so many mods and it can become confusing what runs with what, so be careful and pay attention to directions.

I'm still running 1.4 with RFB/RSRDC and am quite satisfied with it.

I have to put in a good word for "Fall of the Rising Sun" by AOTD Mad Max.
Absolutely superb ships and planes, rounding out the OOB for both the Japanese and US fleets. Have a look at his thread for some examples. He also updates and patches it regularly-he recently added a bunch of carriers.
