View Full Version : Download vs. Boxed version?
I’m thinking about getting SH4 Gold edition, but it’s not clear to me what (if anything) comes in the retail/boxed version that I wouldn’t get if I just downloaded it from Ubi’s web store?
Would I miss out on any printed manuals or maps? Or, is everything in the boxed version pdf files?
Just get the boxed version; it's cheap and you have a disk backup.
All the manuals are crap anyway...
I think you might get a map and recog manual? ...but can't remember, I just wanted the disk.
I picked up a copy at my local GameStop of the Gold version. They only had the empty box on display. When I purchased the game, they retrieved the disk and keyboard card from behind the register (for theft protection). The box was listed as a new (not used) game.
For the Gold version, was there anything else besides the keyboard card and cd/dvd?
I want to make sure that they didn't screw me out of something...

I think Gold comes with the expansion. Good thing too, since most mods are moving to v1.5 of the game. ;)

You didn't get screwed.:haha: That's all that comes with it.
I also got mine from GameStop when it first hit the shelves. $29.99
btw I don't think I got screwed but, I could swear the counter guy winked at me . :-?
Yes, the Gold does have the U-Boat missions.
Glad to know that I got everything...paid the same price for it!

I've used the downloaded version since day one and have no complaints whatsoever. I do have a backup of the download on an external hard drive just in case though. :DL Have also reinstalled numerous times without a hitch. Got mine fron "Direct To Drive".. heres a link ..... http://www.direct2drive.com/Search.aspx?SearchTerm=silent%20hunter

Purchase your copy through the Subsim store, the kickbacks pay for the useless pixels in this post!

Guess I'm glad I got the boxed, if I'm getting the drift.

Just go to SH4 forum and look at posts that have to do with D\L and D\L Vista problems.

Hey FW - that link was for the gold edition only... do you have a link for just the expansion alone?

I use the download versions from d2d of Sh4 and the add on Uboats downloaded as well.
I run Vista and they work fine. The SH4 Download will be just under 4gb.. fits nicely on a DVD for backup..
the Uboats add on is about 1.7 gb and will need another DVD for backup..
after that.. you have your game installed and a backup waiting if needed.
One thing I did find out.. this is one game needed to be installed in default directory with Vista users..
it runs fine from other installed folders..
till you play Multiplayer.. then there is a bug...
so save some time and headaches....
this one time, install to Program Files...sigh..
