Wow, thermal CCTV to look for people wasting energy!:o

Talk about Orwellian greenies.:o Since thet're looking for people, I wonder if they could find Steed?:06:

You guys need to start votin' some people out of office.

Trust the Daily Mail to spin it that way .
This council has been using air surveys of property since 1946 . This new survey ties in with the launch of the home improvement grants the council is doing this month

^This.

What is really happening is the council is finding hot houses, knocking on
the door and giving them a leaflet with all the information about the grants
they are giving out for roof insulation so people can save money on their
leccy-bill.
It's better than just dropping a leaflet in every door whether your house
is well insulated or not.
What's not to like?

Besides, the police have been doing thermal checks on houses to spot
cannabis growers for years (with a lot of success incidentally).

Yup.
All loft insulation gets a 50% - 100% grant dependent on your circumstances.
Same for cavity insulation and some other heat saving installations.

I thought the usual way they spotted those was the utilities companies reporting houses that were using as much electric as a large factory .

Sign up with your State government , as long as both you and the property are eligible you get the grant and/or a subsidised loan taken from the State housing authority and the Federal government .

Yes, but the growers have quickly wised up to that and found ways around it.
Tapping electricity from street lamps, or from other parts of the grid isn't
hard in a urban environment and it can be hard to detect.

The heat from a load of UV bulbs in the attic isn't hard to detect.

Seems like the pot growers needed the insulation. :haha:

Generators... :|\\

Oh and they dont use UV bulbs. The lamp of choice right now is Metal Halide... with a high CRI of course.

That will DEFINETLY show up on thermal imaging :D

Around here, the cops have helicopters with infrared cameras. They used them for search and rescue once in a while, but mostly to find pot patches in the middle of corn fields. Apparently, pot shows up in a different color or something.

And I think the heat efficiency survey thing is a great concept. I'd love to have IR pictures of my house; probably make it easier to patch up the ****ty isolation.

Doesn't the EU use satelites for crop identification ?
Something to do with grant allocation and predicting possible yields .
