Hi guys,

Apologies if this is the wrong forum!

I am interested greatly in German WW2 military history. and loved playing SHIII. However, I just wondered if anyone knew of any other great German sims? be they land sea or air (I like the tiger tank so anything with that in would be nice!). I've tried IL2 Sturmovik and to me it seems a bit too 'arcadey' I really loved Combat Flight Simulator 3 however.

Thanks!

Have you tried Jutland...I've heard really good reviews. Its not WWII of course, but it does involve Germany back when they had one of the most powerful navies in the world.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have wondered about destroyer/surface sims. I'll check it out.

I swear someone had a signature on here where they were part of a tank game.

Any ideas on what game it was?

There is T34 v Tiger but is far from an oustanding game,Steel Fury and Steel Fury:Kharkov are also worth a look at.

No problem. I havn't actually played it yet, but when i first joined this forum i took a look at it and it had me intrigued. From what i gathered you don't just command one ship, but an entire armada. i believe its more of a sim-slash real time strategy game.:)

I read this 3 times and I'm still not believing my eyes. :D

I read this 3 times and I'm still not believing my eyes. :DBut he's kind of right as regards IL-2 nevertheless, because it indeed is a "sim lite" rather than a proper simulator. Take the FMs with their vastly toned-down engine torque for example, and you can't but conclude that 1C probably purposedly neutered them in order to attract a wider gaming audience.

And the same thing goes for the systems modelling as well. First the one-button startup "procedure" is just laughable, and second the operational limits such as maximum continuous boost, RPM and temps are most likely waaaay too lax for all planes as modelled. And third, what's with the all-too-easy ground handling with the in-game narrow-track A/C, Allied or Axis? In reality these beasts were fiddly and dangerous to control, whereas in IL-2 you can just firewall the throttle and take of without too much hassle at all. Now try that in any high-performance single-engine prop plane IRL...

So yeah, it's more an arcadey game than a sim IMO too. Feel free to disagree though, b/c I'm admittedly a bit of a grognard when it comes to flight simulators :D

I didnt say it was a full blood simulator. :O: But it was the "IL2 is arcady, but I liked CFS3" thing that I cant believe. Then again, I dont know what aspects of CFS3 he likes nor I dont know whether he thinks CFS3 is arcady too. Boggles the mind, eh? :haha:

Cheers Dowly :ping: Many people say that CFS3 is a huge pile of carp, but I've never tried it so cannot comment obviously...

But what if someone finally made a true WWII-era study flight sim á la DCS:BS? Now THAT, Sir, would really roxx my soxx

Let's see what BoB:SoW brings us. :hmmm: One thing I'd like to have is something I experienced in FSX flying the BF109E. If you roll left and quickly roll back right, you can feel the controls being VERY "loose", kinda like there not being any air resistance on the other wing. That was cool. :yeah:

If it ever brings us...

Hopefully not another flight sim set in the Olegverse though, I'd like to be able to shoot down bombers with machine guns this time

Anyway, I can't see how IL-2 is arcadey compared to CFS3...

Thanks for the replies guys. I tried the Kharkov game but can't seem to get my head around the controls as of yet.

The reason I find IL2 so arcadey is because the controls are so ropey and unresponsive.

In CFS3 I knew what the plane would do, and I could adjust it to respond more realistically or more reliably.

I also find the UI of IL2 extremely cheap and tacky but my MAIN gripe is that I cannot seem to find a good way of starting a long and interesting campaign.

Hi C B :DL Check over in the Helio forum for CFS3 link to websites that have alot of free d\lds of planes , missions , and campains for CFS3.

I'm gonna get CFS3 just for that reason. :yep:

Il-2 Forgotten Battles has a much better campaign than the original.

For the controls, try increasing the sensitivity of your joystick or reducing the deadzone. In some planes unresponsive controls are realistic. Some WWII fighters weren't all that nimble, and don't expect to be flying aerobatics in the TB-3!

Yea. Il2 1946 is a good flight sim. (and by UI dont ya mean AI. cause there is a m*d over at the mod site that makes the AI alittle more realistic.)

No, by UI he means User Interface, and I can't see how the UI would be any problem in IL-2 because there practically isn't any...

Oah... Didnt even think of user interface. But as raptor said. there realy is not much user interface in il2.
