When you see these terms on the map can you translate them
to an actual speed in knots consistently ?
slow 5 knots,medium 8 to 9 and fast 11 to 12 knots,that's for stock ,i use T.Maru and sometimes the speeds r' a little bit different

Thanks. I'll try using these to plot my intercepts.

Very Fast speeds are assigned to Aircraft. :rock:Old_tex

Don't know about SH4, but in SH3 the radio message gives speed in knots, and the map shows "slow" etc.
Actually the map is more realistic, as observations by aircraft are going to be educated guesses and any radio transmission is probably not going to give the speed at all.

Right now I'm working on TMO 1.6.3 / RSRDC in Sep '42 in the Slot. Tokyo Express (or something very similar) is making regular runs and I'll get anywhere from 4 to 8 DDs running in column with speed noted as "very fast"...my plot puts them at 29-32 knots (depending on weather).
So, I know "very fast" is not exclusive to aircraft.

I have alway seen "very fast" as being aircraft and I'm running RSRDC. I stand corrected. I'm be more careful and not assume that it's only a Betty or other A/C coming after me. Old_tex

old tex, that is what I'd previously assumed as well (also running RSRDC). Should note that is the only time I've seen it (and after paying closer attention last night it is only when DDs are sprinting to position, with speed in excess of 30 to 32).
I think unless you know it is a surface contact anything labeled as "very fast" should be assumed to be aircraft and you should prepare as if it is (after all, it is easier to abort a crash dive than to hesitate and then decide you wish you had...).

I have also seen this, usually when they have gotten a 'hit' on your boat.

I'll look to see if the speed of the DEs are shown as "Very Fast." Usually, I'm at periscope depth when I get close to a destroyer. So, maybe that's why they haven't rushed me.
This is exactly what is interesting about this simulation- there is alway something new to encounter. It's great! Old_tex
