View Full Version : A problem with using the masts for figuring range

I am finding that for figuring the range of a target by placing the stadimeter image on the masts suck. Big time. Why? Because in some lighting conditions it is impossible to see the top of said masts. Another reason is that on many merchant ships there is a flag planted right at the top, which I think extends higher than the mast (but I am not sure of this).

I am curious why something far larger and much less likely to be messed with by adding posts, is not used, such as the top of the funnel? In most cases the top of this structure is clearly visible and easy to discern even in low light conditions.

I am trying out playing at 100 percent realism, and had to drop the "no stabilized view", due to the extreme difficulty in obtaining a stadimeter reading..

I am trying out RFB+RSDC+OM7, and currently playing the Germans in a lowly type IIB. No radar, no sonar, just hydrophones, and eyes.
