Ive been playing SH3 snice day one,, Ive tryed afew mods,,and at the moment Im using GWX 2.1 ( Im downloading GWX 3 now hehehe)
Ive just started having a problem with my Bow Spray, I thought it might of been my "Bow Spray Mod" playing up, so I took it out, only to find Ive still got the same problem.
When the sub hits the waves moving forward, and Im looking though my Binoculars,
my frame rate drops to almost zero.
Does anyone know a fix for that ?, I would hate to re-install again.
Cheers

Welcome aboard SirMartman http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/welcome.gif
It could be a graphics card or RAM problem.
What are your system specs?

Welcome aboard SirMartman. Tis funny, I had similar issues with 2.1 but with no MODS installed. It all went away when I installed 3.0, never to re-occur. No idea what it was as it only happened intermittently and not all the time. In rough seas, FPS would drop to 4/5 as the bow hit a wave and the game would stutter and stagger and then bounce back to 25/30 FPS. :nope:
Weird? :hmmm:
Also, as jimbuna says, it could be your graphics card too.
I recently installed a new GC, a Gainward GeForce 8800GT 512MB and have noticed that any FPS irregularities that I previously experienced with my 256MB card have all gone. It may be worth looking in to.
Again, as jimbuna says, RAM could be part of the issue too………..as suggested, drop you specs in here, I’m sure someone will be able to give you a better insight than I.
Cheers and good luck mate. :)
It is a stock bug with nvidia cards. Hit CTRL+P to fix it. IIRC its actuall mentioned in the SH3 manual.

@ SirMartman: What did i tell you!!! :DL There is always someone in here that has an answer.
These guys are great and make all the little hurdles we have with SH3 surpassable with ease.
Nice one TarJak. :)

Something else you can do to improve your FPS is disable the V-Sync option in the visual options screen of the main SH3 menu.. I run with a NVIDIA 6800Ultra w/256mb and my FPS are around 40 when entering and leaving port and in the open sea around 70.

The methods used to implement particle effects does not work well with nVidia video cards.
Click on Options and then Video Settings, change your Particle Density setting to 60 or less. That keyboard shortcut Tarjak mentioned simply reduces AA settings in-game. I don't recommend turning off Synchronize Frames (vertical sync) unless you have to as it can cause graphical corruption and tearing from dropped frames but it can help reduce stuttering if you're willing to live with the chance of glitched frames (not saying it will happen but it can).
You may have to go one step further and disable High Quality Textures in the Video Options menu, as well, but try reducing or changing some of your video card settings first.
Change your video card settings where Anti-aliasing (AA) is set to 2x and Anisotropic Filtering (AF) is set to no more than 6x. Reducing your 3D Mip-map from High Quality to a lower setting will help a lot as well.
It's all mainly a matter of finding the best balance that you can tolerate between performance and eye-candy.
Sometimes, older games improperly implement DirectX features which can cause major problems even for newer systems. I recall that Phantasy Star Online, released in 2000 for the PC, will still cause even top-of-the-line systems today to stutter and lag because of the quirky way the game renders 3D objects with DirectX 8.0 and has no backface culling of the model so all faces are rendered whether they're seen from the player's point of view or not.

Yes your right Graf Paper. I did forget to mention the chance of tearing, the only times i have encounterd anything is when im looking around inside my U-boat, and even then it's very minor, only stuttering. The reason i disabled it is my FPS is no longer tied to my max moniter refesh rate of 60. I now have FPS of around 70 on average, no tearing and only mild stuttering inside views, great exterior views, and i'm using an older graphics card.
