Hi guys,

Long time no sail, but here I'm dipping again.. :ahoy:

Sailing towards the horizon I encountered with a BIG mixed convoy of battleships, frigates, cargo and tankers.

Well, choosing my pray carefully, I gangbanged an 'HMS Nelson' with three silent torpedoes and watched her going down beautifully.

Next, keeping my distance from those frantic frigates I've launched a noisy Torpedo in to a 'Modern Tanker'.

Now starts my problem, actually three problems.

Since the hit, the 'target speed' (through the periscope) of the tanker did not drop down and stays as the rest of the convoy = 8nm, despite of the fact that it was burning and it was visible that other ships are passing her by :hmmm:
It seems that this is a bag in the game..

Tracking a near by frigate through my main periscope, doesn't calculate the TDC 'Gyroangle' at all. I.e. it stays on 000 all the time, even when the frigate passing my nose from left to right :damn:

The wounded Tanker, after few hours of flaming, finally sunk from a visual distance of about 5km and still didn't got her mark and renown :wah: Well, I remember that someone once wrote about how to add renown points to yourself by editing the game's file but I rather lets the game play as it should without such trick and maneuvers.
(BTW, how much renown is a 'Modern Tanker'?)

So, is there a patch or cure to these three problems

Thanks,

Temujin

As far as I know, it is quite possible to hit a ship, set it alight, and then watch it steam away as though little or nothing had happened, even if it develops a list. The convoy could have altered speed as well. I know for a fact that they make frequent course/speed changes in GWX, sometimes even during an attack. That would account for other ships passing the tanker.
I don't think that is a bug.

As far as the lost renown goes, ships that are damaged can be sunk by high seas. As far as the game is concerned, you didn't sink it, the ocean did. What was the weather like?
It could also be that another U-boat or an aircraft showed up and sank it, though that seems unlikely.

Hi Cap,

Thanks for your reply.

The convoy did not altered speed, all the ships I've monitored before the hit were sailing at 8NM and after the tanker's hit,
they still sailed at the same speed, 8NM
They did altered direction frequently, but they kept their speed.

The sea is clear and calm. There are no waves at all.

The tanker stopped eventually (I could see it through my periscope).
It just stayed on the same dial (i.e. the scop's bearing) for hours and the target speed was still showing 8NM.

So: IT IS A BUG!

Thanks,

No patch. I mean, I wouldn't hold my breath on the chance Ubisoft goes back to touch Silent Hunter 3.

So, is there a patch or cure to these three problems Yes, learn manual targeting. :arrgh!: It doesn't prevent that you sometimes don't get the renown though.

Hmm, that last tanker you mentioned. Did it ever sink (meaning go underwater), or just stay motionless. If the latter it could be it was resting on the seabed. I had that once in the convoy tutorial when it got too close to the island in grid AO83

Renown: was it the first patrol of that career? Did you add anything to the boat before you left port for the first time? That is a well-known renown-killer in any version of the game.

Tanker: you put one torpedo into a large modern tanker? Did you aim for the engine room, or hit it amidships. A midships hit on a tanker might set the fuel on fire, but almost certainly will not slow it down.

Tracking the Frigate: don't know about that one. I've never had that happen.

Me thinks that maybe you hit the F6 button hit that toggle switch for manual input and forgot to reflip that toggle switch...

I wrote in another thread about tanker's..People seem to have a misconception about tankers, in the vanilla version tankers were much too easy to sink compared to R/L written accounts of sinkings. Unless the tanker you hit was filled with a volatile liquid, quite frequently tankers carried inert liquids, it could have taken your one torpedo and just smiled at you depending on its size and age. GWX has dialed down the vunerability of tankers and other LARGE ships to account for this. One other thing. A ships reaction from damage has alot to do with where you hit it with your torpedo in GWX...In vanilla SH3 you could hit a ship just about anywhere and it was headed for the bottom in seconds.
