I wouldn't say its strange, I'd say it shows evidence that nature had them pretty well just right when the supercontinent/s split up.

That Emu cannot produce a valid birth certificate so it should be ineligble because it doesn't look like a citizen . Plus while it is giving the dance of hope you know it is really only out to screw others . Flightless birds happen because of,"regression towards the mean", the use it or lose it of natural selection. It would be odd if it didn't happen.

You shouldn't think of flightlessness as a regression. It is an
improvement/adaptation to save energy and allow larger body
