An American fighter jet shot down an Iranian drone as it was flying over Iraq, U.S. military sources in Baghdad tell Danger Room. Details of the previously-unreported shoot-down, which occurred last month, are still sketchy. But we do know that American commanders have long accused Tehran of supplying weapons and training to all sorts of Iraqi militant groups. Shi'ite militias fired Iranian rockets (http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSL13874831) at U.S. troops in Iraq, according to the American military; Sunni militias allegedly used Iranian armor-piercing bombs (http://blog.wired.com/defense/2007/02/where_are_iraqs.html) to reduce U.S. vehicles to ribbons.

In early 2008, however, the torrent of Iranian weapons into Iraq slowed to a trickle (http://blog.wired.com/defense/2007/02/where_are_iraqs.html), the U.S. said. And now, the new Obama administration is looking for ways to reach out to the Tehran regime (http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0311/p02s01-usfp.html) -- dangling invitations to international conferences, and offering promises of renewed relations.

Well for one thing its a blog. Even I know not to start a sentance with the word and.

But at least they took the effort to point out that Bush's 'failed war' had some impact.

Now... the fact that they have drones and know how to use them is a tad disturbing. Maybe Obama can convince them not to use them. :rotfl:

Thankyou, thankyou, I'll be here all night..;)

Please do that, I'd be interested to see how it gets from the original subject to the Big O in three posts. BTW, does the original post count?:D

In all seriousness, is it alarming that Iran have drone tech? Probably not, I'd guess the French have supplied many

Is it possible that they've modified drones to carry weapons? Yes. Is that alarming? No, but cause for concern.

Now the big question - what were they looking at?

If that was the case they may need to do a drug test on the pilot!

How on earth could they know who's drone it is? Was it towing an Iranian flag? Seriously this is starting to sound like the same rhetoric used to justify the Iraq war. For all John Q public knows it coulld have been an Isreali drone.

Tracked from point of origin. How to tell it's a drone? No cockpit!! And a pilot with eye's on can tell the difference.

E2's from the Air Force and E3's from carriers. There is full radar coverage of Iraq and surroundings 24/7.

Shocker that Iran would choose to use some of its own intelligence assets to monitor a war on that is going on with a bordering country -- between two countries who are hostile to Iran.

I think it would be more noteworthy if Iran was not doing this.

Of course the Americans can always protest that Iran is violating the sovereignty of another country, but I am sure the would would just laugh at us if we did.
