View Full Version : Patch 1.4b?

I just learned that there had been a new GWX release, so I decided to reinstall SH3 and try it out. Problem: I can't find patch 1.4b anywhere. Ubi's site (and everything else that claims to offer silent_hunter_3_dvd_1.4b_us.exe) actually offers a 1.0 > 1.3 patch.

Is there anywhere that I can find an actual patch 1.4b?

Thanks.

Note that when you actually install the 1.4b patch, it will say it's the 1.3 patch. Ignore that.

Do yourself a favour!

After applying the 1.4b patch, copy the entire Silent Hunter 3 program directory to an external HDD or burn it to disk.

Then you NEVER have to install the game again. Copy & paste.:yep:

That's a good idea. Another is the way I do it: I have a separate folder stashed away called 'Data-My Way'. Every time I test a new mod with JSGME and it works, I then install it to my main game. If it doesn't work, I just copy the Data file from my special folder back to SH3. If it does work, I copy it the other way to update the 'My Way' version. That way I always have a copy of the fully patched and modded game ready to go.

Of course I also have a folder right next to it labelled 'SH3 1.4', with just the patched game. You never know when you're going to need it.

Wow. Didn't expect such fast replies.

I applied the patch and, like you guys said, the actual file version is 1.4 even though the installer claims it's 1.3.

Thanks. Just finished the GWX 3 torrent. I'll install it tomorrow and give it a spin.

Well, things are going just as I expected. I installed Silent Hunter 3 and attempted to patch it to v1.4b. At the beginning of the patch installation I got this error message: Cannot install update:sh3.msg:file missing. Does anyone have any ideas?

I waited over -night hoping someone might have an idea about the error when trying to install the 1.4b patch. I was wondering if anyone had seen that before and had any ideas how to successfully install the patch.

Are you installing the game for the first time or is this a reinstall?

It is a reinstall. I haven't had it on here in a long time.

I tried something different. I was installing it on G drive, which shouldn't make any differnce. SO I removed it and put it on C: drive. I applied the patch successfully. The drive name should not matter to the patch but it did.
Thanks for your replies.
I'm going to try to putr GWX-3 on now and then I was wondering if any additional mods are necessary or desireable to add to that? Do you have any thoughts on this?

There are quite a number out there.

my suggestion would be to enable those that come with GWX3.0 and once your comfortable, try a few third party bits and pieces http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

A sound suggestion. I will do that. I didn't know how GWX-3 worked or that there were options involved. I will check it out. Thanks again.

Sounds like you had some legacy files left over from your last install. The best thing to do when uninstalling SH3 is to go back and manually delete any folders that the uninstaller misses.
