I am bowled over by this sim. I cannot believe how engrossing, immersive, challenging and expanding this sim is. Value no end.
So I was trying to tell a friend about the endless delights and there were so many.
So. What is your SINGLE most favorite moment, or feature, mod or immersive item. I find it hard to keep to a single item as they change often BUT give it a shot.
Mine? At night stalking a vessel, hearing a kaboom and a white star burst lights up the sky and water in a dynamic lighting effect and it send chills. The star burst hangs as guns are trained on you while you go into action.
What is your single 'wow' thing?

Watching a medium size convoy materialising over the horison, manovearing into position, making all the plans to select only the fattest targets....only to discover that the covoy is far, far larger than I imagined...and is accompanied by at least 6 destroyers , and then thinking, how am I going to handle this one :dead:

Yes, looking for that 'perfect' opening in the convoy screen and then charging into attack on the surface just like the scene in Das Boot!
Always gives me goosebumps!:DL
Of course that's pre '42....

Sailing out of my home base, looking at all the sights. Just like doing it for real.
Once I got heavily DC'ed by a DD. I was sinking rapidly with many demages. Had to blow emergency surface - no reaction. "that was it", I thought. On my steep dive to eternity I pressed emergency blowout a second and third time -just to see that finally the third emergency blowout stopped the boat from sinking - at 190m. While surfacing I thought "OK, that was close, but now they'll finally finish me". Yet against all odds I managed to escape on surface thanks to the most lousy weather with only one engine and heavy flooding.
I felt like re-born.

The best feature IMHO would be the MP aspect of the game where you can play with up to 7 other players online. Hunting as a wolf pack is far more enjoyable than being a lone wolf.

For me, simple, the creaking of the hull as we dive and wondering, "will I be able to surface again?"

I like picking up schools of dolphins on my sonar. Havn't seen any yet though. I had them on hydrophone this mission.

Not sure if I'd label it a feature, but
You can involve much alchohol and still manage to sink things :arrgh!:

I very much enjoy the sunsets on a peaceful, clear evening, much as I suppose the real life participants did.

Returning to port in one piece, and parking the boat in the pen, mission accomplished
I usually time it so I arrive at sunrise or sunset too :smug:

going into an attack against a large target expecting it to take multiple fish and have it go up in a massive fireball from just 1 fish:D
my torpedos pleasantly surprise me sometimes

Ditto! Just being able to go through all the steps is one of the most enjoyable things in this game for me. :yep:

My wife sat next to me recently while we cruised along at sunset enjoying the ocean waves. Really quite stunning a view, especially to those of us who are hopelessly landlocked.

Got to agree with the sunrise/sunsets in game, even the missus walking past stopped, watched for a bit and said"that's pretty"....and stayed watching. They really can be quite beautiful at times the sunsets/sunrise's.

Great posts. Keep them coming!
I think if one has a good rig with a high end graphics card the sea and detail is unmatchable. I live and spend time on the ocean and the sim can become mesmerizingly beautiful. Heck I was in a million dollar Konsberg simulator on the bridge in a maritime academy recently with wrap around monitors and it was great but this bugger has better graphics. Nice to see/meet people who enjoy the immersion.

I like the interaction you have with other members on the submarine. Okay, I would like a lot more, but it's a step up from what we've had in the past. I find it very immersive as the guys are watching the horizon and then they start shouting "Ship sighted!" as a fat convoy heaves into sight.
And the emptiness of the ocean as you're on patrol. The sun going down and the stars coming out. The wind catching the tops of the waves. The rocking of the boat as you stand watch. A sense of loneliness and duty combined.
I love that.

The gramophone rocks!
There's been so much...
Seeing my first iceberg...
Escaping on the surface in heavy fog, with a DD RIGHT behind me, launching a last desperate rear eel and having it explode so much it split in two...
My first sight of new york skyscrapers on a clear moonlit night...
But I will NEVER ever forget, lazing submerged and listening somewhere off miami coast, casually taking a sweep around with the periscope...only to have a USN Blimp slowly drift into view...had never ever seen one before in the game!
Most Favorite Event:
Watching a flight of Ju-87's & Ju-88's pound the crap out of 2 British destroyers just after I'd attacked & sunk the tramp steamer that they were escorting. While the destroyers were busy fighting off the Luftwaffe I made our escape.:D
Least Favorite Event:
Being coned by a Catalina's searchlight last night. We were sailing along in the Med, enjoying a peaceful evening & charging our batteries, when this PBY suddenly shows up out of nowhere and begins an attack run. We managed to crash dive just in time & didn't suffer any damage but it was close. Scared the poop out of both me & my IWO!
