Schlageter-JG26

My adoring commander, after seeing my Porpoise, the USS Pike, perform well on her first two missions, has sent us back out. This time we're to sneak past the pickets, mines and fences to snap a photo of Tokyo harbor for his keepsakes.
Aye aye, cap'n!
We slinked our way across the Pacific, passing up many fair targets. Made a slow and safe approach to Tokyo by drifting past the inlet harbors at a mere 2 knots submerged. None got wise to our presence.
Now that the mission is completed we decided to leave a calling card on our egress from the area. Took a long-range shot at a stationary tanker. She's flamed. Passed up on a Jap submarine plane tender (forget the name - passed only because it cannot be destroyed in-game) and got lucky in the strait. What should be steaming north but a shiny huge euro liner! I gave up the silence to make a dash for her. We needed to be closer than 9km to figure a clean shot on a ship pulling 17kn. First torp hit and slowed her to 8, 2nd torp fired from rear as we passed to her starboard side. She flamed and now we surfaced to let the deck gun gnaw at it. She took a beatin, but finally succumbed. Now her stacks mark a watery grave in the shallows.
We mixed with some small sub chasers and gunships, leveled them all at long range with the deck gun before submerging and going slow/silent again.
Now the BIG target on the way out is the Fuso I spotted at dock. Moved in as close as we dared and lined up an escape route before firing a full complement of 4 torps. Depth 27m and each targeted to an ammo bunker. None caught a bunker despite hitting the targets perfectly, but it still flopped her on her side - dead in the water. I was about to use my last 2 torps on a tanker when a destroyer rounded the harbor and took to depth charging the area. We hit the throttles to avoid the mess and did snap-shot 1 torp at the destroyer and 1 at the tanker. Destroyer died in a glorious fireball, but the tanker lit up with 5 separate fires without dying. With more destroyers now flocking to the area, it was time to beat a hasty retreat.
Low and slow away from the harbors and we're almost out to sea. Got some good kills, perhaps 60k tonnage all told. But we're out of torps... not even 1 left as a safety against predators... and the deck gun is down to about 20 rounds.
Olly on the sonar just passed me a report. Multiple warships heading NE at speed... heading right for us. Up periscope.
Good God.... it's half the Japanese carrier fleet with heavy escorts pounding up the way towards me.
We're going to hug the shore and make like a hole in the water. With some luck, we'll be able to distance ourselves from the mainland. Nightfall is still 7 hours away, so we have to wait before we can risk a surface dash.
I'm going to go visit the head.
