Crud!!!! :x:x:x

I guess this is one game I refuse to play once again. They are killing PC gaming. It's like they force you to get the pirate version.

Yes, find more excuses to not pay, if that helps you.

Not only did you not read my post, if you knew anything about me from the 10K posts I've made on this board, you'd know I buy every damn game I play.

I would be more worried if you wanted to be friends. As for 10K posts, I usually dont read your topics.

Ow for fark's sake. Buy the game and use *cough* to not make it use Steam if you're so darned paranoid about the thing. And just to recap, ETW needs steam only during install, then you can happily switch your steam to offline mode.

As for the next generation of idiots spreading FUD about Steam because WON died or Counter Strike got updated.

Steam Copy protection is one of the least powerful out there. The ONLY thing it is there for is to keep the average Joe from cracking it within 5 mins.

Unlike some other companies. Valve is not dumb enough to expect their CP to even put a serious dent in piracy but you have to have SOMETHING or nobody will ever trust you to publish the games.

Still, no need for the comment that I edited out.

So far, this is my first steam game. It seems like it is the same thing as CoH, where it checks in everytime you play, or you need the disk? Still is obnoxious though.

I think like with CoH as long your connected to the internet you will not need the Disc in the drive.

You don't need the CD to play, because you will install the entire game in your computer.

Oop, beat me to it.

When in offline mode you can play all games installed up to that point. No CD or anything needed but you dont get updates nor online features.

Thats fine for some and at times even needed. But not connecting always because one thinks Valve is spying on their PC is paranoia and egos out of control because why the hell would they want to spy on your ass when they can spy on some pornstar or something?

I think I'm just going to give up pc gaming entirely. Maybe I'll get a wii, I could use the exercise too!

What's that?
Console games and gamers tend to not be as complex as PC games, due to limited buttons. Silly consoles.

I see your boycott starforce sig there, and I guess you also assume that steam invades your computer. Or is there some other reason that you would switch over?

Still, no need for the comment that I edited out.I disagree when he is implying something that is not true. It was accurate, though I won't make a war out of it.

Just a quick comment on this..
Unfortunately not every and all games are playable in offline mode, which imo stinks when you want to play while on the road or got no internet access for whatever reason.
So far, I got only one game (X3:Terran Conflict) over steam, and it will be likely the last for that very reason.

Well, you obviously can't play MP games without internet, but I don't think thats your problem.

What games do you have trouble with?

X3 that he mentions above is a single player game.

Question , was it fully updated first? , I went to play Empire - Total war after I'd bought and installed it yesterday, and I couldn't play offline till I'd updated it.

Yes, it was. I started it first to see if there was an update, closed the game and steam and unplugged the cable.

I don't think your can start steam with the cable unconnected. Set it to offline mode first, then unplug and try.

You can. It will ask if you if you want to start in offline mode or cancel.

However, I did test some more just a few minutes ago, and now it works. :shifty:
Strange technology, nowadays.

Honestly, I don't care much for steam's copy protection. But if the game uses silly stuff like GTA IV's "sign into windows live to save your games" crap, that really is over the top.

Zachstar

GTA IV on the PC is fail.. One of the worst ports out there.

Glad to hear about offline mode. It isnt the smoothest thing in the world but it sure as hell beat using Starforce.

I won't give up on pc gaming, but I'll give my money to those that give a real value added service to gamers. My principle is once I give money for a game, that game is mine and no one, no one has the right to tell me when, or how to frakking use it. :shucks:
