Wow there's days worth of reading there.
Nice find clayp, thaks for posting
Wow, thats a great site, I was just reading about the Gars first patrol.. their first attack used up 8 torps for no hits...
Then the higher ups make assumptions about the why they missed, mainly stating that the range was too short and that they shouldnt waste so many torps, instead make deliberate well planned attacks using as few torps as possible... (im guess at this stage no one had any idea of the situation with the Mk14 torp?). It must have been expremely frustrating for the sub commanders to hear this, from some guy who sits at a desk and who's making assumptions about range's....:damn:
Anyway, its pretty cool to be able to read these, lots of details. They even talk about "musical fish". "It is a musical note varying in pitch and volume". "from the rapid changes in bearing and intesity it is believed that fish peculiar to this area do produce these sounds"...
Interesting...:hmmm:

If you are interested in the Pacific Theater, try to find the book "The Pacific War 1941-1945" by John Costello. It's great reading.:yeah: Old_tex

Thanks, Im looking it up right now. Actually Im heading to Hawaii next week with the family for a 2 week vacation and I need a book. (oh it will be nice, it was -6C this morning..brrrr) We're staying on maui but Ive got an itch to go see Pearl Harbour and check out the SS & BB. Its a quick cheap flight, could even do it in one day. Im petty sure my son would enjoy it, of course its all for him, I have no interest in seeing the old warships....:O: :haha:

I don't go to Hawaii unless I pay my respects at Pearl. SS Bowfin is a great tour, also. While on Oahu, eat at the Crouching Lion on the North Shore. We always stay in Kihei on the SW side of Maui. Lahaina is like Malibu, Ca. Too busy. Almost bought a sailing franchise there in the 80's. Have fun. Aloha!!! Old_tex
