Hey guys. I had an idea and just thought I would run it by you. I was thinking of making a website/forum where members of subsim will engage in a running campaign together. This is just a little side project for fun and will in no way become your primary career.

Basically everyone will start in Sept 39. We will probably base out of Wilhelmshaven as we all want to be in the same flotilla. Everyone will take a historically accurate boat and go out on patrol. When you finish your patrol you will return and post your patrol log. You will then have to wait for the next month until you can go out again. If your boat is damaged you may have to wait to go out again.

The forum will have different sub-forums. Like a pub for chit chat between patrols, a radio room where you can send transmissions while out at sea. The campagin will be D.I.D. If you die, you can start a new career as a different captain. There could be some good drama if one member doesnt come back.

I am still just working out the details and will put together the site. The biggest question would be for how long would a person have to finish a patrol. 2 weeks? 1 week? Obviously some guys would do the whole patrol on one or two nights. I was think 2 weeks to let everyone do one patrol. Then we will advance the month and the captains that are able will go out again. Like I said, if your sub took some crazy damage you may have to sit out a month.

This would just be for fun. We would use GWX 3.0. As we would need to advance the campaign every week or so we will allow the use of the "return to base" feature if you find yourself out in the Atlantic when the week is up. Of course some of our big IX boats could go out for longer. With SH3 Commander we could set it up so no matter when you return, we can always set a date to go out again that would make sense in the campaign. The captains back early can sit in the pub and talk. :)

Anyways lots of details to work out but just thought I would see if there is any interest.

How about - if you die, you cant participate at all in the game or in the forum until one of the following conditions

1. everyone else is dead

2. the war ends

3. 12 calendar months (in campaign) have elapsed since your death (meaning if you die in August 1940... you cant rejoin the campaign OR the forum until everyone reaches august 1941)

that could be an idea too Golden Rivet. There would be a specified sitting out period if your captain is killed before you can create a new one.

To keep everything running somewhat together we would not worry too much about the days of the month and more of just the month itself. If you are out more then 25-30 days in game time you would use up two months instead of one.

Example:

U-22 Type II September Patrol (Lt gord96)- 23000t

U-65 Type IXB September/Oct Patrol (Lt jimbuna)- 45000t

That would be the biggest thing. As keeping dates aligned would be the hardest part. So by just using months we would eliminate that.

We would even have perhaps special missions for a a certain captain. IE: Deliver an agent or pickup an agent etc.

I'd prefer if it was just #3. Otherwise I'm all for it. :arrgh!:

I agree. There should be a penalty for death, but not one that would prevent a person from rejoining.

I like this idea. So would we all be required to play with the same mods and realism? Would it be GWX3.0 without additional mods or could we add say the LLRT mod for example. Some mods don't effect game play like the torpedo damage mod. Would ii use SH3 commander? Might be neat to play with realistic career lengths and see if anyone gets to retire or maybe become an instructor.

There are already some similar things running around, but there is never enough of something good, so go ahead and check what others have done so far so you can pick the best ideas and add your own refreshing ones:

If you haven't tried www.wolvesatwar.org then I can really reccomend it. It really is the only reason I still play SH3 thesedays. Its very well organised, structured and presented.

See you there!

The level of realism you play is up to you. The whole idea of WaW is to play the game, have fun and simulate the war. pop over to the forum and have a look. I am sure you will love it.
