Subsim forum software upgrade scheduled March 16-17, 2009

The Subsim Radio Room forum is one version behind, so I am going to endeavor to backup the database (all 2.8 GBs) and upgrade the forum. I willingly acknowledge that this process is fraught with peril and likely to age me greatly. Still, I'm going to do it. Pray for me, or at least, put down the voodoo dolls for a week.

Why make such a great tool more difficult to use? I've seen some complaints that people don't use the search function enough and now it is a little more difficult. :wah:

Some of the confirmation images are a little difficult to read. It took a couple of tries earlier. Maybe it is just a little too early in the morning. :yawn:

Thread tagging: A new way to facilitate searching and grouping of threads, it is now possible for users to add tags to threads they post or read.

Tags can be added when creating a new thread, or to an existing thread by any user (with appropriate permissions).

Reciprocal Friendships Between Users

As part of the new social networking system, users can now request that people on their buddy list confirm their friendship, after which time a person's list of confirmed friends will be viewable to other users.

Public Messaging

While private messages between users have been in vBulletin since version 2.0, vBulletin 3.7 introduces the public messaging system, allowing users to comment publicly on their profile pages. This is just for comments, people, and it is public.



User Picture Galleries

vBulletin users can now create albums and upload pictures to their account. The ability to view these albums and pictures can be limited by the user to just board staff and people on their buddy list if they want privacy.

New Member Profile Page

In order to accomodate all the new features in vBulletin 3.7, the member profile page has been completely redesigned from the ground up.

The new page presents information in a far cleaner and more logical manner, while dividing up information into manageable chunks using a tabbed interface.

Individual profile field categories can be displayed alone in blocks in the right column, in addition to appearing by default in the 'About Me' tab.

I'll switch that off, thanks for pointing it out. It is an option to keep spambots off, or keep them from burning up server resources and slowing the forum down for real users. As long as that is not a problem, we can search w/o captcha.

I am having trouble with the system e-mail. I am going to dig through the vBulletin docs to see what I can do to fix it.

I get notifs on threads I am subscribed to, you do not get these?

One new thing I've noticed, when you send PMs to multiple people, it displays the Receipients under the subject bar. Did it do that before? I don't remember it.

Ok, check to ensure you are subscribed to this thread, I fixed the e-mail problem. I checked it against several of my addresses and I was not getting a notif on comcast. I ran a diagnostics and found the problem, and I did get the e-mail test.

I will send you four gentlemen a PM as well to test that.

Danlisa, the Multiquote is working, but you forgot some things you must select more then 1 post and the button is nothing more then Selecting the posts.

pick the posts you want to quote
