It seems that everyone prefers the VII c, also there are a lot more skins for it, but when i look at both subs, there doesn't seem to be much difference at all. Actually the VII is a tad slower no? So what's the point of upgrading?

You can dive a bit deeper :yep:

I still stick with the Type VIIB for the sake of longer battery life (which especially matters when I'm in the mood for making the Gibralter run). For me, the deeper dive depths aren't to huge of an incentive, since the boat can take 150 meters, which is all I need too dodge those depth-charges. Besides, I think the B variant looks cooler with that saw-blade do-hickey mounted on the bow of the boat.

The "do-hickey" was a net cutter. It was supposed to cut through enemy ASW nets. I have a few photos in one of my books of some early C boats that had them for a short time.

The VIIC has about a 2-3 second faster dive time.

The VIIC is also capable of receiving more upgrades than the VIIB, especially in the anti-aircraft department.

VIIC and 41/42 = deeper dive, fast dive, and more upgrades

Though the VIIC variant does dive faster, deeper,
the VIIB seems to take damage
better from dept charges,
Hull integrity seems
to be thicker in the VIIB :arrgh!:

i prefer the type IV/B as well. Not sure why. I just like it. Perhaps its the 2 digit boat numbers and the net cutter. I like to play with boats with some character. something about a type VII/B in 1940 I like. My current boat is U-45. She has been around since 38. Seen lots of action. I use a skin that shows her scars.

:arrgh!:

Thanks for clearing that up for me man!

To tell you the truth, when I first saw pictures of a U-boat as a kid, I thought the net cutter was like what the Nautilus had to sink ships in the movie "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." :haha:

I preferred VIIB, for agility, than I will go to IXB or IXC. upgrading to VIIC isn't worth it for me.
